He's one of the few experienced writer it seems like. But @The HONORABLE SKJ drops good game too. There's a lot of posters who have insight and the ability to actually convey those thoughts. We just have to provide a platform that is worth the effort.

The main thing is it has to be comparable to these white publications. The quality of the website and writing can't be subpar in comparison if you want to be taken seriously.

As far as the overarching point....none of those listed in the OP are strictly hip-hop. So regardless of who worked there their primary interest probably ain't hip-hop. Even if their staff was 50% black that's not a guarantee the publication itself would treat the genre with more respect, or that the black staff would exclusively deal with hip-hop, or that the black people they hire even have an interest in it.

It would be like if McDonalds started making pizzas. They ain't hiring a pizza guy. They're gonna have the fry cook make them.

So they're probably grabbing an alt rock guy and asking him to review a rap album.

Not saying it's right but it is what it is. I don't read anything music related from any of those places so I'm pretty about it.

their primary interest, is to be first with a breaking story, or new song.. second, is to keep/build a relationship with the artist & label, so they can get features in the future..

they dont give a damn who its from.. most these editors, have little, to no relationship with the staff or contributors.. unless its some highly recognizable journalist(which is few & far between, nowadays).. EIC dont care what they look like, what their background is, etc.. their trying to break content first..
