Not surprised. What non-black centric creative place has a large black staff? In the various ad places I've been to, there's at best three black people employed. You literally see everyone else there, white, brown, Filipino, but black? Nah.

Why can't I be the token? :to:

bullshyt. hip hop mags should be overwhelmingly black since blacks, you know, created and kept hip hop alive.

breh...

wow..

that sounds emotional. That isn't the way the game is played :snoop:

My simple response to you is a question but it's a rhetorical question

Why didn't we monetize it and corner the market (record companies, media outlets, distribution) after we started the genre/culture?

I wonder if its because we allowed others to come in (i.e. rick ruben) before we allowed ourselves to build a solid infrastructure. Let's not also discount how much racism has played a part in the marginalization of black people at all levels. Including entertainment.

It looks like we need to start a magazine or Blog and get it cracking.

no and yes :snoop:

It wouldn't hurt on a micro level to have a blog.. or an online mag....

but on a macro level we need to put our black dollars together and think distribution (which is a stretch) or a record label.

Now as laughable as that sounds... that's where we run into our issues. Right there ^

I unfortunately learned this year's ago. I went to school for journalism so when I was in school I'd look up the staffs of my favorite publications and find they were super white, even the hip-hop ones.

I've since moved on to social media (which isn't much better).

If you guys are interested you should check out the #mediadiversity and #workingwhilebrown hashtags on Twitter showing what black journalists go through.

It has nothing to do with allowing someone else to come in and do whatever.

Rick Ruben created something just the same way ANYONE else at that time could have done the same thing. WE can't always blame others for something if we aren't doing it ourselves.

whats this we business? Aren't you white?

Also, Blacks in America had the same exact opportunities as Rick Ruben in the 80s? :ohhh:

Nowadays, there are tons of outlets for black journalists to get there work out there.

The problem is....will you dudes support them?
just like I see great underground artists(even on here) posting music, or guys posting their blogs, or producers posting their beats, etc. if you don't support black ppl doing black things then you have NO ONE to blame but yourself.

on the flip side, the coli (can) be a great place to start a news blog..something like what :hamster: has/had that would allow the talent that is just on this site or around to have an outlet where ppl can read them.

@cook @Brooklynzson Holla at me....lets try to get this poppin off and we can start having talented writers and dudes from the coli a chance to get published on a high traffic site.

fukk those other publications...why waste your hate on them? stop reading them.

lets build somethign that will hit on a different level.

This thread also has a dangerous underlying theme

I caution you guys to stop using this black/white line of reasoning when assessing ideas/things/institutions

There is no difference between a black snake and white snake or a black vulture and a white vulture

Case in point, Lyor Cohen and Rick Ruben. If you haven't studied their fall out and why they still don't care much for each other I suggest looking it up.

Rick was about the culture Lyor was about a dollar

Today their ideologies still clash on so many levels and it's trickle down effect can be seen throughout the culture.

Also, what is your definition of success? Is your definition self realized or someone else's narrative that requires your to conform ?

- Is being signed and going platinum successful?

- Is being an underground artist with full control of your content and solid fan base (Tec 9) successful?
