How effed up is it that almost the most important decision in life is made at age 17?

I kinda agree with this, I had no clue at that point of my life and I still don't.

College aint a scam. Its jus that alot of playas chose a field that they dont really like or doesnt bring any real money.

This. And if you nikkas don't go fukking your life up by getting married early or having kids early, you can ALWAYS go back and correct shyt and get a degree/learn a skill that will actually get you paid. But most nikkas won't do this because they don't want to suffer through a couple of more years were they will actually have to use their brain, even if it means a guaranteed shot at a brighter future.

I have talked about this in the dealing with women thread....the pressure on kids is insane in this country.

From your Junior year in HS till graduation you feel this stress upon you...like you NEED to figure out what you want to do with your life RIGHT NOW OR ELSE YOU WILL FALL BEHIND.

After graduation, I heard "so where you going next year?" so many times, I felt an uncontrollable rage :birdman: towards anyone who asked it. You could just feel the judgement in people's voices when you told them "I dont know, Im not sure" :sadbron:

Kids need time to figure themselves out. I did. Not to wander around aimlessly but, maybe work, travel, volunteer for one of those organizations (I wish I traveled instead of working in retrospect) and when you were 19/20/21, you'd have a better understanding of what you wanted. Instead, we shame and pressure kids, saying if they dont have everything figured out the moment they walk across that stage and leave high school, they're gonna end up mopping floors.

IMO I feel everybody should go to college. However I feel there should be a intermediary between highschool and university. Pushing a whole bunch of uneducated, inexperienced teenagers into tha system leaves for disaster.

BAD idea IMO, unless folks already have a plan or are going for free.

You are running into the same issue that is hurting the majority of us in our 20's. The idea that everyone should go to college seems nice on paper...15-20 years of paying student loans is not. To get everyone to go to college the costs need to go down, this is not sustainable.

Plus you want cats to wait? That can lead to more disaster...the average age of paying off those loans might be 50 if we keep this up

Nah college is a good place to elevate yourself, expose yourself to different ideologies, and ways of thinking, also helps you develop as a man. Ive changed alot going to university, and I know damm well if I stayed back in my lil rot not of a hood, I wouldnt have elevated as a man. When I say college, I dont even mean private universitys or YALE n Princeton.

State schools and Community Colleges serve their purpose imo.

i think high schools have it all fukked up. when i was in high school, i needed to take gov't and economics in order to graduate. its great to know about the 3 branches of gov't and shyt, but most 17/18 yr olds don't have basic money management skills. fukk gov't. expand the economics course. teach these kids not only about the stock market and investment tools, but how to do something as simple as balance a fukkin check book. credit card companies prey on college age adults because they know they're more than likely not equipped with the knowledge or the maturity to make the best financial decisions and high schools throw them into the deep end WITH the sharks circling.

not everybody is college material and on top of that, if everybody went to college master's degrees would become about as useful as GED certificates.

The problem is when you're young you think you know every damn thing and when people try to school you on the real world you are like :comeon:.

At the end of the day you will need college in the world we are living in. Go to a community college and see how many 25+ are their and many will tell you i wish i would have did this when i was younger and able to have the fun part of college

Been there as well. People asking you what you do or what you plan to do and if you don't suit their unrealistic expectations, they look at you like :wtf: .

There is too much pressure in high school cause people still trying to figure themselves out (hobbies, etc), much less their education future is going. Add the top of them bullshyt state exams that teachers pressure you on, and failure of some sort is certain.
