I don't know what it is with black R&B nowadays but it's almost like it's no market for in anymore. A few years back Usher would have went gold in a week, now he'll be lucky if he reaches it by the end of the year.

U silly negros always fixate on album sales . . . u think Jive gives a fukk about him selling 128 or 300 K?

Check how the performance of the songs on the album that went 300 K did

OMG sold 7 mil singles. Basically the album grossed more off 1 single than it did with total album sales 7 million sales of the same single equates to just about 700K albums sold ..

after a while you realize why labels aren't mad that nyggas like justin bieber dont even sell 500 K first week out the gate ...

These nyggas drop a single that white bytches download 5 million time over a few months is equivalent to 500 K records.

NIcki minaj broke it down perfectly but nyggas wont get it... she said

Its so hip hop to be focused on these artists album sales you forget that not all artists really care about big first week numbers ... thats just a hip hop fan mentality. Usher pop breh. he making way more cake now and the label is loving it

Smh @ yall really thinking that its him not singing songs like "there goes my baby" that caused it. silly negros . . .

The person who yall need to analyze is Adele she still outselling nyggas after about 80 weeks on the charts ...in 2 months her weekly sales will be on top of trey, ross, chris brown, 2 chainz ... its not how you start.. its how u finish especially in other genres besides rap

I'm not fixated on album sales, but the premise of the thread is about album sales. Did you not just see me state about the album being quality regardless of the sales? :childplease: Facts are facts though, so comparing first week sells isn't a big deal and a reason to be called a silly negro. Years ago it would've been weird to see Trey Songz outsell Usher. It's interesting... lol, relax.

And of course Adele is going to sell more, her fanbase is muuuuch bigger. And she's way more marketable than Trey, Ross, Chris Brown and 2 Chainz. Only person competing with Adele really is Lady Gaga. And probably Taylor Swift.

adele just sold 13mil albums in 1 year

hip-hop and r&b are

She is an contemporary r&b artist though :leon:.

And besides that who besides her is selling like her, the second best artist after her is Taylor Swift and then Eminem.
And third I would guess that it's Lil Wayne. so the top 3, of american artists is 2/3s hiphop.

Adele is not Contemporary R&B she's a pop artist. And you're forgetting Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry Beiber, Rihanna and those lames. I think the only R&B artist selling right now is Beyonce. Wayne and Em 10 atleast though but they aren't outselling those pop stars. Well Em does but Wayne aint going 5x plat or something crazy like that.

She'e contemporary R&B, soul, pop, jazz and whatever which all gets concluded to contemporary r&b. If she was black she would be getting those awards, just look at all here influences and favorite artists. Urban awards, soul train awards, NAACP awards, MOBO (music of black origin) awards.. Her only pop influence would be spice girls like most girls born 84-89 (which obviously is excluded) . her original description was "Adele (Adkins) is an English Soul/Jazz singer from Brixton in South London"

And I'm talking about American sales now and Gaga, Mars, Perry, Bieber and Rihanna has not moved units like Wayne since 08.

dont think anyone mentioned this...but 2Chainz had a #1 single going into his release. Trey? Not so much. For 2012, it's an ok first week. nothing more. nothing less. stop believing that this is 2003-2005.

Adele's R&B is more 50s-60s influenced than modern to me so i don't consider her contemporary. She blends a bunch of styles into a mainstream sound so I just consider her pop but that's not to diss her because she's pretty good.

I though we were talking recent sales. Yeah Carter 3 outsold most of them in the US but worldwide sales is where he falls off while Em stays near the top.

Trey has never been a big seller. Who is core audience? He keeps making these alcohol related singles and his albums lack replay value. i like most of his music though

c4 as well.

Her biggest influences are Aretha, Beyonce, R. Kelly, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, northern london soul, Marvin and on.
I don't know why all these different soul and r&b associations and on would give her prices for just that when she isn't.
She's got pop elements cause she mixes different elements of these genres a lot, that's the only thing I would say.

Estelle, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Adele and these girls are all from the same school of music but for some reason the crackers only claimed her and duffy.

it's Trey's first #1 album so im pretty sure he's happy about that. Trey hasn't been a huge seller and this is actually his 2nd highest after PP&P and that had bigger songs than Chapter V does. 2 Chainz had more "hype" and had a bigger song with No Lie. i'll put anything that at the end of the year Chapter V will sell more than Tru Story.

The way I look at it is album sales are a thing of the past, and only the most popular will get those. Napster came along 12 years ago changed how things are to this day. It's not about album sales, it's about the singles and how they do. Flo Rida has hits for days, and I don't think his albums sale worth a damn, and the same goes for Pitbull too. Albums aren't the measuring point for success anymore, it's all about the singles.
