I don't label him a sellout for the movies. It's not like he started producing straight white movies or Tyler Perry c00n movies. Since when is doing comedy and showing black family being a sellout?

If anything I got the  face when I saw his recent beer commercial. I mean he rapped about alcohol before but he also rapped about it in a negative light too. He should be set financially so I don't understand why he chose to promote the mans poison.

Cube still drop shyt realer than what most of these dudes are putting out and he's 20+ in the game

idk why people call jay z a sell out thou, his whole image was based on being a hustla, and a hustla's #1 priority is to get money, and thats what he doin..

meanwhile, a more militant type of rapper name Chuck D has stuck to his image after all these years, and im sure he isn't hurting..and i've neva heard anybody call him a sell out..:salute:

the black cat is my crown...
The old Cube would body this whole industry! :myman:

but out that "I am the West" album these songs are dope!...to me...

03-Ice Cube-Life In California Ft. Jayo And Wc - YouTube

Ice Cube - Too West Coast [Official Video] - YouTube

10-Ice Cube-No Country For Young Men - YouTube

ice cube hood robin - YouTube

13-Ice Cube-Your Money Or Your Life - YouTube

Ice Cube - Man Vs Machine (Bonus Track) - YouTube

and he is a rapper from the 80s and still droppin heat like that.

:ohlawd:

what new rapper thats out now fukkin with those songs?
wow... didn't know i am the west had bonus tracks... i listened to both of them and they are both better than 90% of iatw... that's not saying much tho'... anyhow, like i said, to each his own... amw cube would mercilessly slaughter iatw cube and it wouldn't even be close... it's hard to listen to this guy who is just a shell of his former self

however, i will give him some props because he did one thing i long wondered why rappers never do, and i'm surprised he did it.... on the bonus track pros vs. joes cube says something like he has the best kids and a fine wife... WHOA @ that realism there (not that i know his kids or his wife, but at least he's giving love to his family instead of fronting)... most of the so called gangsta rappers and thug rappers are family men that go home to their wives and kids and snuggle up on the coach and watch movies with their families, blah, blah, blah... nothing wrong with that... it's just when they get in the booth they never talk about all the good women out there, like their wives, daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, etc... they're always giving the trifling bytches and hoes all the shine... props to cube for that line.. .need more rappers to be real for once...

Who was it about then? Dj pooh dancing in the Hammer outfit :heh:

Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk

Nicki Minaj. :youngsabo:

The lyrics fit her 100x better than Hammer.

He never specified who it was about. The rest of the song is about types of people, not anyone specifically.

And the lyrics on that verse don't make any sense if it's about Hammer:

When you first start rhyming
It started off slow and then you start climbing
But it wasn't fast enough I guess
So you gave your other style a test
You was hardcore hip-hop
Now look at yourself, boy you done flip-flopped
Giving our music away to the mainstream
Don't you know they ain't down with the team
They just sent they boss over
Put a bug in your ear and now you crossed over
On MTV but they don't care
They'll have a new nikka next year

You out in the cold
No more white fans and no more soul
And you might have a heart attack
When you find out the black folks don't want you back
And you know what's worse?
You was just like the nikka in the first verse
Stop selling out your race
And wipe that stupid-ass smile off your face
nikkas always gotta show they teeth
Now I'm a be brief
Be true to the game

Hammer was Hammer from day 1. Goofy pants, dancing, pop rap. He didn't "cross over" from something else to that.

:merchant: ....u cant be serious right now

:snoop:

Explain to me how the lyrics make sense when applied to Hammer. They don't. People are watching the video, saying "that looks like Hammer!" and missing the context of what Cube is saying. This is the very reason Cube cleared it up back then.

Are you outta your damn mind? Cube penned lyrics about a rapper who flipped mainstream and "sold out" (wasnt hammer the biggest star in the world at the time?), and had a video with a dude dressed exactly like hammer, which was a unique style to say the least. Pooh even had the same haircut... Why are you being so dense right now? I dont give a fawk what Cube tried to say afterwards...this is ridiculous.

did cube ever address the video tho? dj pooh is clearly mocking hammer in the video.

did cube ever address that? just curious.

and yea, i dont think cube dissed hammer in the song, altho hammer did kinda tweak his style a bit. i mean, he wasnt hardcore but he wasnt as poppish as he later became either.

Breh....watch the video. It showed a rapper turning from a hardcore rapper into a Hammer-looking pop rapper.

Hammer never "flipped" mainstream. He had the exact same style for his whole run.

You're acting like Hammer was EPMD or something then turned into "2 Legit 2 Quit". The lyrics make no fukking sense if you apply them to Hammer's career. He never "crossed over"....crossed over from what exactly?

It's been 20+ years so I'm obviously paraphrasing, but it was something like this:

Cube explained it like, the problem ain't Hammer. The problem is people turning into Hammer, which is what the video showed. A guy looks like the typical "hardcore" rapper from the 90s, and suddenly he crosses over and turns into a Hammer type rapper. If you've always been that kinda rapper, the song obviously don't apply to you.
