People are the same rationalizing, truth-distorting, sacred-cow-worshiping flock of sheep across race, political affiliation, social group, and genres of music and at this point you just have to laugh and be amused by how dead serious they are with the rationalizations and distortions. Ice Cube didn't sell out the same way America fights for freedom abroad. You're gonna believe it if the truth is a threat to the myth you've invested yourself in, no use debating.

Jayz totally sold out. All people talk about his how much money he has now nothing more.

Naw, Cube went from "Burn Hollywood, Burn" to making movies for little Becky and Chad.

Hov went from talkin bout money in 96 to...talkin bout money in 2013.

"Burn Hollywood Burn" is talking about movies that make black people look like total sellouts with that black face paint on.

he talked about how the kids loves him in the song "Be true to the game".

"i walk through the ghetto, and the flavors good
..........little kids jumpin on me,
but you,you wanna be white and corny..."

so why not make a movie for the kids.:yeshrug:

This is more accurate. You cant call MC Hammer a sellout because he made pop music, and then years later make "we be clubbin", and label yourself Don Mega. The Cube of the early 90s, and the Cube of the late 90s is almost a completely different person and artist.

To a certain extent you guys are right in that his personal beliefs did evolve, as his anti-white posture was influenced heavily by his infatuation with the Nation of Islam. I think he started to lose interest in Muhammed's teaching at some point, but he clearly downplayed the religious aspect for mainstream acceptance when he started westside connection. Thats selling out 101. Trading beliefs for cash.

The selling out stuff has more to do with his shift in hip hop content, than his acting career.

When did he call Hammer a sell out? :wtf:

I don't know man, I wasn't a big fan of the Don Mega switch up from the nikka Ya Love To Hate but I did say that he didn't sell out imo.

When he was younger he was a thousand times more militant, especially about white people being the devil, and he was dissing New Jack Swing and R&B for c00nery. He grew up and changed like everyone does, and he probably doesn't agree with a lot of what he used to say, and I bet ya that young Cube would have called himself a sell out cause of it.

nikka is still the man the best west coast artist to ever make it imo, probably the best rapper to ever make it too. But that's debatable.

He was never really about that shyt. Keep in mind during the height of that ("Death Certificate" and "The Predator") he was close friends with Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

As far as the thread, here's the problem.

Cube painted himself into a corner. That's the best way to put it. When you promote yourself as pro-black, anti-America, anti-sell out, "keeping it real", fukk Uncle Sam, fukk the mainstream, shout out to Khalid Muhammad, etc etc etc. after a certain point there is virtually nothing you can do to further your career that doesn't contradict the code you set up for yourself.

Also it didn't help that he went from being a "voice in the streets" type rapper to actually trying to convince people he's a gangster with that Westside Connection shyt.

He went from being the youngest member of the NWA, to dropping albums, to being in Boyz N Da Hood, never being blackballed, never sell out, done commercials, and is still relevant in the game. PS he's against sellouts. So how dare you say he sell out? Lil Wayne sell out! Nicki Minaj sell out! Dr Dre? he done headphones but never sold out. So how dare you say Cube sell out?

My kids like his movies and their names aren't Becky or Chad...

Now if he went from making Burn Hollywood Burn to being the lead in The Help or Driving Miss Daisy 2 then you would have a better point...

The Coors commercials are terrible and the most legit example..But 90% of the stuff people point to as sellout behavior is laughable to me...It lets me know that they looked at him as something bigger than just an entertainer (which is honestly a backhanded compliment)...
