How could Jay Z be the GOAT when he's never made a good song that wasn't about Jay Z?

exactly. that's why these posters make me laugh. Jay-Z doesn't make albums. He makes hits. And I respect it. He realized early he could never be Nas, but he could be Big.

Liquid Swords > Only Built imo

The golden 3: Supreme, Liquid, Cuban Linx. all in my top 10. two in my top 5
Post your top ten.

Alright. I held this thread down with about ten replies in a row :wow:
I'm about to go shovel snow for hours. Hopefully I don't die of a heart attack :mjcry:

RD.
And a reach for radio song doesn't necessarily mean a song is bad, although that would be the case more often than not
Jay can execute those types of songs well.

Can't knock the hustle
feelin it
ain't no nikka

all obvious shots for radio play. jay never made a raw hip hop album.

Wtf are you talking about? Every single one of those songs is about him. :dead:

Jay Z is musically narcissistic. He lacks the ability to effectively write music about anything outside of how it directly affects him.

The songs you listed are introspective and he is great at being introspective. He can't step outside of himself though.
this must be why Nas didn't want to fyck with Jay at the very beginning. He knew whatever they collaborated with would've just been another narcissistic track

Liquid Swords is probably in my top ten. It's not a GOAT contender though. :yeshrug:
Hell on Earth is my number five album. It's not a GOAT contender either though :mjcry:

Oh dear....

:leostare:

An album with perfect intricate lyricism and some of the most haunting and well executed production, in addition to the brilliant interwoven kung fu samples and overarching narrative and that's not a GOAT contender? Breh you lost me there...

Hell on Earth isn't a GOAT contender, but The Infamous is so Mobb Deep are good in that department.

But this is why I re-emphasize the need to make a thread to reach a consensus about classics. It's an interesting debate.

True heads know that Rakim's best work was on his first three albums with Eric B. And that was basically a little over 30 tracks about The God, and how he viewed wack MC's, the good life, the streets, life in general and current events. This is the basis of content for most of the GOAT's. How often they choose to engage will obviously vary, but you can't discredit one great because he doesn't follow in the same creative process as another.

KRS isn't Scarface. Just like Kane isn't Rakim. Vice versa. Nas won't be B.I.G., the same way Cube won't be Pac. What makes a great MC, is being great at what you do, not building the same kind of catalogue as another artist. Today, people want to compare everything track for track. But you'd never see anyone saying PE wasn't as great as De La Soul because they didn't have a track like "Saturday's". The culture wasn't built on one lane. So there's room for EPMD to be EPMD, and Outkast to be Outkast without needing to have a track like ATCQ's "Excursions". LL never had to be anybody but LL. Same could be said for G Rap or Slick Rick. What makes them great is individuality, not how they compare to each other.

I feel this was the sentiment in the 90d. Somewhere down the road LS really receded and OBFCL became the hands down definitive Wu solo album, if not the definitive east coast album of the 90s.

When they dropped, we just played both albums like crazy. It's honestly tough to choose, but OB4CL was a little more accessible for the masses, so I can see why most people identify with that one more. Easily the best two Wu albums, to me. I've never been able to say which is better. They're masterpieces.

right, which is why OB4CL is more identifiable as a classic, because of the impact and influence ADDED to the quality, whereas Liquid Swords was a lightning in the bottle type moment, with almost insurmountable quality.

Unlike most of your favorite rappers, Jay went through enough shyt for him to talk about his real life.

Cats are trying to make up fugazi rules :mjlol:
How can Pac be the goat if he can't make comedy rap? How can Nas be the goat if he can't freestyle? How can Ra be the goat if he can't handle trap beats?

40 year old nikkas trolling :snoop:
