How come skin bleaching never became big in black America like it did in Africa & the Caribbean?

Didn't they get colonized first? It makes sense pretty much being part of their history

@Lazlowe Cravensworth It's not bleaching if it doesn't go beyond your skin tone and burning is not the guage used to determine if a product is intended to lighten the skin. There are products that are used to lighten the skin that don't burn at all like licorice root extract.

do you or anyone in your family or friends bleach BEYOND your skin tone

I ask cause women lie a lot, especially in relation to beauty stuff

as one person already stated
people been perming their hair FOREVER
people have also been bleaching

yall are trying to tell me blk american people are the only set of people in the world who do not bleach?
at least those with melanin

As someone else stated, if the products are high quality, one would never know.

When you have pimples is it only in one place on your face?
and when that spot remover lightens one spot

dont you have to make sure your whole face is even?

they are using cheap bleaching supplies
many times made by chinese and indians
they LOVE to bleach too
yes...not everyone is walking around looking like a nestle crunch bar and if you have all over acne, you don't use spot remover for it, you need to treat it and use peels to get rid of it - peels don't change skin color unless done incorrectly

For the most part we don't worship whiteness like the other groups do.

I guess.

As said I have no expertise on these things.
I just know things with that hydro ingredient and others can burn skin.
And certain folks can go see dermatologist an even get prescriptions for the good stuff.

I will bow out of the conversation.

Lol. No American demographic bleaches wholescale like foreigners.

Never met an American Asian, Hispanic, or black person that bleaches in my entire life...

I've come across more than a few africans that have though

:francis:

I think because your culture sees it as a social norm, you think it's widespread...

but that shyt is only in asia, and certain parts of the diaspora...

i understand why you were arguing so hard now... you really do think EVERYONE does it

We did NOT always have this. The push for black people to love who we are started with the Nation of Islam. Before that, black people were using lightening cream and conking our hair.

James Brown did an interview where he said he got the idea for "I'm black and I'm proud" from the teachings of Elijah Muhammad.

Black people were proud to be called "negro" before that. Jesse Jackson said this in 1975 as well. That when all the other black leaders were referring to themselves as negroes, Elijah Muhammad was the only one telling black people that we should be proud to be black.
Honorable Elijah Muhammad did alot of good for black people.

People who disparage his name are highly suspect

Not saying you are..just some clowns on here have before.

Because America had white people to reproduce with
Not if you wanted to live.

shyt not even until like the 1960s...and even then you had to be living in a place like Los Angeles if you wanted to marry a pawg. And you needed lowkey Mafia muscle or a famous cac to vouch for you.

Also it was better if said pawg wasn't american...marrying a white broad before 1970 was about as good as a death sentence in America.

If the family had mercy then they'd just whoop the daughter ass then banish her from the family like someone mother I know.

@Lazlowe Cravensworth AA don't bleach. Idk where you are from but it's just not something we do. I have never seen an AA bleach ever. Idk why that is unbelievable to you.

If that is what yall say I take you at your words.
This is obviously super important and dead serious.
Blk americans do not and have no history of bleaching.
You know no hispanics, asians, or family members who bleach.

ONLY AFRICANS
I take yall at your words

one thing i been meaning to ask yall tho...

why are africans weaves so terrible?

like, black women are at the top of the straight hair food chain... i'd consider that on par with bleaching skin to be more white...

but they do it so well...

why do African women look like they all star in tyler perry movies?

discuss..
