The artists that I "prop up" on here are artists like Nas, Ghostface, Common, Beans, Saigon and Black Thought. I don't expect any artist to "hide reality" so Im not sure why you keep reverting back to that argument.

What Ya Life Like--Beanie Sigel - YouTube

What message can one take from this record? This depiction makes me not want to get locked up, nor does it make me think being a victim of the prison industrial complex is cool.

Saigon - Enemies - YouTube

Another album I stanned back on :hamster: . Again...just cause you come from the hood dont mean you got to adopt the mentality of what these cacs want u to be.

I dont expect these kids to be "kickin knowledge" but can we atleast hold our people to a higher standard? I understand Common may be considered "old" and Lupe is considered a "nerd", but there aint one young brother from that city willing to go left and speak on the nonsense going on in that city? Where is the balance? At what point do we break this cycle? Or do we just go along with it because it happens to be the norm at the moment?

Black folk killin black folk...thats that shyt I dont like

i cram to understand why you are looking forward to hearing a message from a 16 year old. sure there are some that will provide such(BG for example) but these dudes are knuckleheads that would be going nowhere fast if it wasnt for rap.

and im sure theres plenty of young rappers in chicago that provide the content you want.

obviously, a message isnt apart of GBE's reperotoire at this point. let them stay in their lane.

There is a difference between speaking on your environment and glorifying ignorance.

Melle Mel's The Message, KRS Sound of da Police, etc werent rapping bout rainbows and butterflies. Violence aint nothin new to hip-hop but there was always a moral compass that came along with it.

Whats going on in the Chi is sad...ya'll embrace it but then shyt on a brother like Lupe when he speaks up against it.

Thats some ass backwards shyt

But the crime rate in 2011 and 2012 is the lowest its been since before the crack era, do you find that sad? :mjpls:

Its just chicago time to buzz, but the city if chicago has never been safer than in 2011 and2012

I don't really care. It's just fukking bizarre that it went from Common, Ye, Twista, No I.D and then The Cool Kids and this is what we are getting now. I guess it was they were the silenced minority(majority?) for a long time and they are getting their shine now.

Jay Z and Biggie had dispicable subject matter on all their records but guess what, the music was dope and that's all that matters. No selective outrage about promoting drug dealing\violence or a materialistic lifestyle whatsoever.

The only thing about chief keef is that the music is not that great, hence why people can adjust their moral compass all of a sudden and be outraged.

Uncle ScarFace and Cube peeled a nucca's cap on every other record and nobody said a word because the tracks were piff.

If Chief Keef appealed to the so called hip hop purists, everyone would be on his nuts calling him the resurrection of real gangsta rap and would not care anything about the effects it may or may not have on the community

You mixing up different arguments. The post with the video's was in response to your comment saying I want rappers to "hide reality". The videos I posted are as "real" as it gets...both rappers did time and both make portrayals of street life that arent overly glamorized cartoon depictions of what it means to be gangsta.

I'll say it again, I dont expect a teenager to be standing in the street with a kufi on droppin knowledge (although I do like early 90's hip-hop where that was more prevalent)...I'm simply asking where is the balance? If GBE is on that rowdy shyt, who in the city is offering the alternative?

Thats why I can respect someone like Lupe coming along and speaking up...and why I say we are allowed to hold our people to a higher standard. By no means am I just trying to pick on Chicago soley, I can apply the same argument for hip-hop as a whole. It just so happens Chief Keef and the Chi got the spotlight on em.

Most likely because Wayne's "Promotion of Violence" stayed on his records.
You didn't hear about Wayne having a disagreement with another 15 year old and
then clapping him up,then using a public platform to essentially sh1t on that kids loss of life.

I can't even imagine the outrage that would occur if a 15 year old Wayne was up at a
radio station saying some sh1t like "Fvck that ***** ! Rest In Piss ***** ! We comin after your fam next ! ***** !", with callers calling into co-sign it.

Not to mention how many outraged parents would boycott his music, how politicians would probably use him as a convenient talking point, how young black males would be condemned and stereotyped moreso than they already were/are.

I wouldn't even consider such behavior "Real" unless we were calling it "Real" Disgusting behavior.
