The process of losing weight is simple but it's a grind, especially if you're diagnosed obese. It's strictly about adherence and patience.
You need to avoid diet fatigue otherwise youre screwed and will be yoyoing your weight. AKA...Don't expect to knock this out in 6 months.

Tbh, if he’s 85-90% consistent with better eating for a 6 months and adds in exercise 2-3 times a week, he could drop a clean 45-50lbs just based of his starting size, and that progress will likely propel him to keep going. Main thing is the consistency, especially at first when things aren’t moving.
