I stay on the north east now :snoop: I would suggest anyone moving to move on the westside, or central. Even central east is cool, like close to downtown or close to the Medical center those areas. The east side is so barren. I'm lucky I live close to 610 and close to downtown because I can just go to central areas for stores and resturants. If you can't stay in or by the loop definitely move west.
That's where I'm looking at right now:gladbron:
How's the proximity of things to each other in that area? Restaurants, nightlife, mosques, shopping etc?

I was all set to move to Chicago next month but now the same type of opportunity became available to me in Houston. With all things being equal (mainly the amount of $$ at my disposal) Houston is looking like the better choice:patrice:
I know more people in Chicago therefore more already established connections, but I've always been open to new things therefore starting fresh in Houston wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing to me.
Plus the rent :merchant:
I'm from the midwest but Chicago rent is ridiculous, esp. when I compared it to Houston prices I was seeing.

Shii Imma be able to live relatively well in Houston if what I'm seeing is true:jbhmm:
What other things should I take into consideration? How's the dating game, social life, weed prices etc. in both places? Weigh in and help me eat brehs:jbhmm:
If your salary is gonna be the same in either city I would go wherever the cost of living is cheaper

Cinco Ranch Community Ranked No. 1 for Livability Statewide and Nationwide
Katy, Texas — March 27, 2014

AreaVibes, a website rating the livability of cities, zip codes and areas, has rated the Cinco Ranch community in Katy, Texas as “No. 1” for livability statewide and nationwide.

Specifically, Cinco Ranch rated a 92 livability score. AreaVibes’ livability scores are based on various metrics for each city, including: amenities, cost of living, crime rates, education, employment, housing and weather. Cinco Ranch scored an “A” or better in all metrics.

“This is great news for the Katy area and further substantiates the fact that Cinco Ranch has a high quality of life and is a great place to live,” said Lance LaCour, President and CEO of the Katy Area Economic Development Council (Katy Area EDC).

One major factor behind Cinco Ranch’s strong livability rating, according to Katy Area EDC research, is the Katy Independent School District, a nationally-acclaimed school system with several Texas Education Agency (TEA) Exemplary Schools. Also, Katy ISD’s performance on American College Tests (ACTs) and Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SATs) regularly rate above state and national averages.

In addition, AreaVibes noted the income per capita in Cinco Ranch is 128.4 percent greater than the Texas average and 102.9 percent greater than the national average. The median household income in Cinco Ranch is 165.9 percent greater than the Texas average and 151.2 percent greater than the national average. By contrast, Cinco Ranch’s poverty level is 92.8 percent less than the Texas average and 89.6 percent less than the national average.

Meanwhile, Cinco Ranch enjoys a well-educated and growing workforce. Cinco Ranch has a high school graduation rate of 98.5 percent, compared to 73.1 percent overall in Texas, and a 69 percent U.S. high school graduation rate. More than 65.9 percent of Cinco Ranch residents have earned bachelor’s degrees versus 10.3 percent overall for Texas and 13.9 percent nationwide. Cinco Ranch excels in advanced education demographics with 20.5 percent of residents having master’s degrees compared to 3 percent for Texas and 5.9 percent nationwide. Additionally, employment in Cinco Ranch is expected to grow 24 percent (from 9,214 to 11,493) by 2018.

Cinco Ranch also benefits from the surrounding area’s steady influx of businesses opening headquarters or branch facilities in or near Katy. Companies opening and expanding new facilities and offices in the area within the last two years include, GEICO; Kobelco; BP America; Weatherford, Shell Exploration and Production; Jacobs; Sasol; Subsea 7; Houston Offshore Engineering; Welltech Americas; Memorial Hermann; Methodist Hospital; Igloo Corporation; Dyna-Drill; Medline Industries; Hampco/G-Tech; Goya; and Entrust. That's fine if you have a family, and those places aren't cheap. We're talking 400 and up for something nice and new.

The woodlands is 45 minutes away with light traffic and them crackers don't want anything to do with Houston. It's Northwest of Houston not in Northwest Houston

Imma have to get back to you on that:patrice:
Still looking at specific areas just know that I'm limiting my search to the west side due to its proximity to where I need to be

Mosque are definitely more plentiful on the West, that side is definitely more international. Always has been. Restaurants just depend every side and neighborhood has its pockets. The most chef driven restaurants are central like The Heights, Montrose, Rice, Galleria, Downtown, Upper Kirby etc. but then every neighborhood has gems. Then you have more upscale chain restaurants Perry's Steak house that also have locations on the on the outskits and in the city. Night life is mainly the same neighborhoods I just named minus the Heights.

They are beginning to build many apartment complexes out in West/Southwest Houston that aren't as expensive due to the new medical centers out here.

Can't speak on the Woodlands as much.:manny:
Plus with Westpark Tollroad you can get to downtown in 20 minutes in light traffic:ehh:

Those schools will still be there when OP is old enough to want a family tho and he can move out to the West side when he's ready:manny:

The suburbs
Lol @ someone comparing the murder rates in chicago vs the H :russ:. Everyone here legally stays strapped and you dont even need a chl to "legally" carry in this town. Chiraq seems like a mass shooting 3 times a week. Two words make Houston better than the Chi, NO. SNOW. You're in relative location to one of the best food towns in the entire world (New Orleans) and the weather here stays pretty consistent. I love the Chi, half my fam is there or from there but I wouldnt live there compared to here in Houston for a number of different reasons (cost of living being a big factor).
What type of idiot shyt is this. You're comparing living a few hours away from one of the best food cities, to actually living IN one of the best food cities? :dahell:

Light traffic only occurs on Sunday in Houston, lol

Don't get me wrong Houston has a lot to offer, I just wouldn't move there

We've talked about moving several times but everytime we visit family or friends, we get home and agree we can't do it.

Different strokes for different folks
