Opinion: New TSU library a beacon for school and community

"The building was designed by Moody Nolan, the largest African American owned and managed architecture firm in the country."

Brehs I'm seriously thinking about moving out to HTX. I loved my trip out there & the housing prices on har.com are so cheap it hurt my feelings.

One question though. Is there a neighborhood/suburb with a good amount of black people, low amount of crime & a low risk of life-threatening floods?

The Macgregor part of Third ward and Mo city are majority and plurality black respectively and are prosperous.

Tides are changing in 3rd ward. In certain pockets, they’re still an everybody-knows-everybody vibe though.

Yeah things are changing fashisho in third ward.

But, both the "tre" part of it and the "MacGregor" part are still majority black %66.9 and %58.3 respectively . And the MacGregor part of 3rd ward has a higher median income than the city as a whole at $52.8k and black people make up the majority of people there within that income range at %56. This is also the area were the almeda strip black biz district is. So, definitely a prosperous neighborhood especially by black standards. Which ain't to say the "tre" side is bad. It definitely ain't and is very rich in culture, but that there's more large concentrated pockets with extreme poverty and crime flairs up in those parts from time to time.

All ethnic and city pride aside. I just wanna make sure I'm laying out the facts as they are. Not puttin on.

I don’t know the numbers, just what I see. MacGregor is still mostly black, but it’s very much aging too. Lot of money being poured into the area. Even Yates, looks nothing like it did 10 years ago.

Ain't disagreeing.

Just providing the facts behind it all so we can make sure we're grounded in truth & accuracy when talking about these neighborhoods and the issues around them.

As for my opinion: That area along with the tre side is going to continue to develop at a rapid rate. It's in Black Americans best interest to make sure we're the one's in the drivers seat of the development that happens there.

Once I get my ducks in order the tre side is actually on the top of my list of places to settle down in and invest along with the nickel another rapidly changing area(see the east river development under construction).
