I remember being a youth jumping on that 80 Lyons/Dowling to downtown and then hopping on the 82 or the 53 to the Galleria."METRO has a current active fleet of 1,393 ACTIVE buses, which includes 40' conventional transit buses (diesel and hybrid models), 45' commuter buses (diesel and hybrid models), and paratransit vehicles."

Crazy how that was like nearly 15 years ago.
But are the bus drivers part of a union though?
I love the complete randomness of this thread being on the Coli
That's a 1979 Grumman-Flxible 870 rebuilt to Flxible Metro A standards in 1983. The original order of 326 buses (800-1125) were deemed defective due to cracked A frames and literally dozens of other minor issues. All of the buses were pulled in 1982 forcing Metro to rebuild buses from years 1964-76, stall the retirement of 1961 model year buses, lease buses from San Antonio and use school buses until one half of the RTS-04 fleet could arrive and relieve the pressure. Also around this time Metro's order of 152 GMC RTS-01s, notorious for A/C failures due to their sloped backs, had the SuTrak A/C units placed atop them. The sealed windows had inlets inserted that could be opened to increase airflow before being replaced by slide windows which could be opened and closed by the passengers. In 1982 Metro made the decision to retire 226 of the 326 Grumman buses and send the other 100 back to be rebuilt to current Metro Model A standards. When they came back they were renumbered 1600-1699. Five were lost in a fire almost immediately but the rest soldiered on. They had the engines and transmissions rebuilt/replaced in 1987 and were expected to last until 1995. Due to a bus shortage the last 35 of these buses (including the pictured 1610) were retired in 1997 in VERY rough shape. Some of the loudest rattling I've ever heard. Every bump was like falling sideways off a mountain. They leaned against curbs, always sagging.

There are like five D30LFs left. I think after the next sign up that's it for them. They only run on the 58 and 72. And there's one on the 15 on Saturday, SOMETIMES. Crazy how the randomly decimated that entire fleet. Bus 4297, which is now gone, was bounced around a lot. Didn't know it was at Kashmere too.
This is a real metro bus
