But how are you going to post pics of Houston Metro without the GOAT RTS buses? :stopitslime:

:noah:

As for the rest of you fakkit haters; this that shyt you need to learn though, that Metro, that shyt that make your ride slow.

They were reliable buses BUT imo the D40LFs revolutionized transit...

:whoa:

Breh, I fukks with the D40LFs, especially the 4000s, I fukkS with them. The 2800s and the 3500 series hybrids too. BUT, the RTS saved Metro and lasted 20 years. The oldest bus, 4015, is going on 17 is only used during weekday rush hour but the RTS at 17 and up were used everyday all day. Nothing will ever match the longevity of an RTS.

A guilty pleasure of mine though

Why does something so bad sound so good? :noah:

These buses lasted 18 years, cracked frames and all. :lupe:

True, I agree! But the one problem with the RTS though is it wasn't low floor.... wheelchair bound passengers had to get on/off through the back. The D40LF was mass produced and could fit any application along with being ada compliant.....

Lol those buses!!!! They remind me of those gillig phantoms... they are a little sleek

thanks!

I actually take pictures of buses in my spare time.... mostly the east of houston.... mesa tc, southeast tc, kashmere tc, 5th ward-denver harbor tc and on rare occasions hiram clarke tc....

This is my Flickr account,

I've slacked off a bit due to courses, my dslr needing a new lens and boredom lol.... I'll get back into it once the new buses come in during august.

Bus 4147 and 2825 were looking so good. :wow: I saw you got a picture of 4087. I used to see it a lot about two years ago, maybe less. Always on the same trip on the 56. It was in BAD shape. They pulled it off the line for a couple of weeks, then it came back smoky as ever, then they scrapped it. I'm going to miss those 4000s.

You can see a few old D30LFs and D40LFs (I'm guessing the 4000 series) in the back of the Kashmere Garage.... I saw a wrecked 5000 series MCI hybrid back there as well....

There are like five D30LFs left. I think after the next sign up that's it for them. They only run on the 58 and 72. And there's one on the 15 on Saturday, SOMETIMES. Crazy how the randomly decimated that entire fleet. Bus 4297, which is now gone, was bounced around a lot. Didn't know it was at Kashmere too.

That's a 1979 Grumman-Flxible 870 rebuilt to Flxible Metro A standards in 1983. The original order of 326 buses (800-1125) were deemed defective due to cracked A frames and literally dozens of other minor issues. All of the buses were pulled in 1982 forcing Metro to rebuild buses from years 1964-76, stall the retirement of 1961 model year buses, lease buses from San Antonio and use school buses until one half of the RTS-04 fleet could arrive and relieve the pressure. Also around this time Metro's order of 152 GMC RTS-01s, notorious for A/C failures due to their sloped backs, had the SuTrak A/C units placed atop them. The sealed windows had inlets inserted that could be opened to increase airflow before being replaced by slide windows which could be opened and closed by the passengers. In 1982 Metro made the decision to retire 226 of the 326 Grumman buses and send the other 100 back to be rebuilt to current Metro Model A standards. When they came back they were renumbered 1600-1699. Five were lost in a fire almost immediately but the rest soldiered on. They had the engines and transmissions rebuilt/replaced in 1987 and were expected to last until 1995. Due to a bus shortage the last 35 of these buses (including the pictured 1610) were retired in 1997 in VERY rough shape. Some of the loudest rattling I've ever heard. Every bump was like falling sideways off a mountain. They leaned against curbs, always sagging.
