I actually think the tablet will do just fine actually. Again, this is meant to be a premium device. There will be lower priced Windows 8 tablets on the market. Remember, most of M$'s hardware partners aren't really happy with M$ entering the hardware arena to begin with, so M$ is not trying to put too much pressure with overly aggressive pricing. the surface is almost like a concept PC, giving OEMs an idea of the possibilities.

Microsoft is just trying to be slick trying to get passed the average high end tablet price by saying it is comparable to the price of ultrabooks...people are not running to buy ultrabooks.
