Bro its a good read.. but fine - Every major studio relies mostly on blockbusters these days, and its reaching a breaking point this summer... way too many blockbusters are coming out. So theyre set to lose alot of money
Same thing is happening in games. I'd much rather see Kings of Summer and Fruitvale Station than Hangover 3 and After Earth. Pacific Rim looks like that piff though.

will smith stans gotta use international #s to justify AMERICA being tired of will and letting him flop his past few movies

Lamont be grinding hard for will and that's coo cuz I like will too but there are no excuses when your movie can't break 60 mill in the states. That's pathetic.

Mib3 was lucky over seas it killed it cuz it didn't even make its budget back in the us. That's pathetic too... needed international numbers to cover a flop.

i'd say the conjuring will be #1 ..if not a CLOSE 2nd to turbo.

turbo looks kinda wack. i wouldnt be surprised despicable me 2 beats it out

but horror movies always do well. plus this one is getting GREAT reviews(85% as of now)

breh i would love for the conjuring to be number 1 from the reviews it deserves it but its a rated r horror movie without a franchise against a kids movie in the middle of summer with voice actors people actually know

With all these disasters flopping I am optimistic for the future of the movie industry for the first time in years. Summer time to me personally is a time where most trash comes out and I usually avoid the movies, usually big special effects attached to one or two stars with a horrible script.

I just read that fukking "Grown Ups 2" outperformed Pacific Rim, despite getting horrible reviews (Pacific Rim actually has pretty good reviews). How is that even possible? I'm amazed that people are still paying to see Adam Sandler movies.

Really sad man. Guess we'll never see the voltron movie

the same reason The Heat did so well breh.

It seems like EVERY SINGLE MOVIE is a big action blockbuster. You throw a light comedy in there and people will go see it simply cause it's different.

People aren't into movies enough to differentiate a good film like Pacific Rim as opposed to formulaic World War Z/White House Down etc. Personally I've given every single big budget action movie a miss, and Pacific Rim will be the first movie I see in theaters this summer after FF6. Why? I've done my research into directors and reviews and all that. 95% of people don't.

They just go to their 14 screen multiplex in their small town and just go :ld: alright, this looks good. Alright, we saw a big budget action movie last weekend, we don't need to see another today.

i have a feeling this weekend's top five will be

1. Turbo
2. RIPD
3. Pacific Rim
4. The Conjuring
5. Red 2

1. Despicable Me
2. The Conjuring
3. Turbo
4. Grown Ups
5. R.I.P.D.

I've barely seen any Turbo ads or commercials, Despicable Me will go strong just off the franchise name.

My opinion at least.

Ain't no way despicable me2 wouldn't be top 2 for another week or so. That there franchise with them short yellow fukks are right there with monsters inc in that toystory/shrek category of popular lil kid shyt.

Turbo can be hit or miss as the same overload/ burn out feeling may happen with the kids/parents.. like epic was luke warm, monsters inc killed it, despicable2 killed it, but now ain't there a smurfs flick comin out soon if not already? And now turbo? The latter 4 in damn near consecutive weeks :dead:

And I just don't see how ripd wouldn't flop. It ain't nothin new or refreshing, the old white guy is playin the goofy smart guy role that johnny Depp couldn't pull anyone in with in lone ranger.. and Ryan Reynolds is playin the will smith role circa men in black but mib3 felt old and tired as is.. and ain't no one checking for Reynolds on some smith, depp, pitt, denzel type of way. Id say it might do well overseas tho just off gp.

Back in MIA
By us not going out and watching a big budget movie all we're actually doing is killing a sub genre for a few years until someone decides to reboot it. Hollywood doesn't give a fukk.

They force feed audiences shyt all of the time.

The Blockbuster will never die.

I'm looking at the budgets. Not sure what you're seeing.....

(domestic and international box office minus budget =
Place beyond the pines made 15mil
Gangster Squad made 40mil
Drive made 60mil
Crazy Stupid Love made 95mil
The Ides of March made 63mil
Blue Valentine made 11mil
Half Nelson made 3.9mil
Fracture made 81mil
The Notebook made 85mil and $$$$$$$ in it's life on DVD
Murder by Numbers made 6mil

The only two that can be considered box office flops are "Lars and the real girl" which never saw wide release and barely made it's money back (lost like $300,000)....and 'All Good Things' which also never saw a wide release.

Like I said...no Blockbusters. But that's by design. The guy has never acted in a movie with a budget anywhere close to 100 million dollars and barely ever loses money at the box office.

You can't just subtract the budget from the box office and consider that the profit. You have to consider the theatres' cuts. You pretty much have to double the budget to break even.

Some execs had to go home and explain to their kids why there wasn't gonna be a Christmas over that movie...:heh: Deservedly so. :birdman:

fukked up thing was. it was actualy a good movie. Not classic or anything but as Blockbusters go It was dope.

Doesn't hurt that I read a few of the books as a kid either..

But they REALLY fukked up the marketing:ufdup:
