Is it true whatever the budget for a film is, the marketing is double (i.e. if it costs 20 mill to make, 20 mill is on marketing)

I don't mind the Pixar Disney films (even though I don't watch them) as they are original stories, but zombies, vampires, CGI based, buildings and cars being blown up consistently, etc. I can't stand those.

Why can' a studio buy the rights to a 10 mill or less film and market that good and possibly make 5x off that?

i doubt that, what if a movie costs 200 mil? do u really think their spending another 200 mil on marketing?

And the economics for a blockbuster can be daunting. If a film costs $200 million to make and another $200 million to market, it needs to generate $800 million at the box office just to break even, because distributors and theater owners keep roughly half the revenue. Not that many films generate such big numbers. Last year, only seven films had worldwide grosses of more than $750 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

I actually heard about this prior to reading it.

H-Town
Damn..
Will flopped
Jamie & Tatum flopped
Depp flopped
Pacific Rim flopped

I'm lookin at Hugh Jackmen on deck like :patrice: I dunno whether wolverine gon make the cut.. I see Matt Damon with his tom cruise will smith outer space copy cat flick too out there... and I dunno what the expectations are with that Ryan Reynolds crap, but u never kno

I feel a lotta folks are kinda burnt out from all this 'big blockbuster' /'save the world-country from apocalyptic hell'/grandiose mission with alotta explosives' thing.. I think brad pitt struck gold since the country is still very much in its zombie fix + it being the only movie of its kind/genre this summer+ good reviews.

Shoot, I'm a denzel fan but I'm lookin at that 2gunz flick like ehhh.. I'll prob watch it but i ain't even hyped for it like that

I just read that fukking "Grown Ups 2" outperformed Pacific Rim, despite getting horrible reviews (Pacific Rim actually has pretty good reviews). How is that even possible? I'm amazed that people are still paying to see Adam Sandler movies.

Don't listen to that bullshyt. If it really took making $800 mil for a blockbuster to break even, the entire film industry would've crashed decades ago.

The studio heads complain that they have to split 50% of the box office take with the theatres. The theatres say they have to overcharge on the concession stands because they barely get any of the box office. Which is it? :beli:

Don't listen to those articles. Its bullshyt. They're not making those movies for the hell of it.

I actually heard about this prior to reading it.

It says if a movie has $200 million spent on production and another $200 million on marketing. It doesn't say the formula for marketing is 100% of the cost of production.

Exactly.
