True, but his movies make money because of their lower budgets.

The reason he is not a tent-pole actor is because he chooses not to be.

He's one of the most in demand actors in Hollywood. He could have a Blockbuster or a franchise any time he wants.

not really look at those budgets homie been floppin dont really matter to me he droppin piff tho

You're right, my fault. The other link said otherwise, though, and it adjusted for inflation, too, so it was more realistic. But again, that was a franchise with the first movie being wildly successful, spinning off into sequels, a cartoon series, etc. After Earth isn't.

you talking bout the last 365 that was just domestic where it says 13
it didnt factor in worldwide

I'm looking at the budgets. Not sure what you're seeing.....

(domestic and international box office minus budget =
Place beyond the pines made 15mil
Gangster Squad made 40mil
Drive made 60mil
Crazy Stupid Love made 95mil
The Ides of March made 63mil
Blue Valentine made 11mil
Half Nelson made 3.9mil
Fracture made 81mil
The Notebook made 85mil and $$$$$$$ in it's life on DVD
Murder by Numbers made 6mil

The only two that can be considered box office flops are "Lars and the real girl" which never saw wide release and barely made it's money back (lost like $300,000)....and 'All Good Things' which also never saw a wide release.

Like I said...no Blockbusters. But that's by design. The guy has never acted in a movie with a budget anywhere close to 100 million dollars and barely ever loses money at the box office.

Men in Black 3 made 71% of it's money overseas. If it wasn't for the international box office it would have lost $50 million dollars.

So did it flop?

You can't use total box office numbers to declare Men in Black III a blockbuster success but then use domestic numbers to declare Ryan Gosling the star of quality flops :heh:

Drive was one of the best movies of 2011 and arguably one of the top 10 in the last decade. It made only 35 million at the box office. And people were suing (true story) because they felt like they were fooled into seeing the movie and there wasn't enough action in it.

'Let Me In' a great horror remake to the original 'Let the right one in', made shyt at the box office. The producers were taking a chance by trying to introduce American's to true horror movie that didn't rely on cheap scares. It basically BOMBED. Yet every stupid rehashed haunted house/possessed kids horror movie will kill at the box office.

Blame middle America for not accepting originality. The Midwest in particular. That's who Hollywood markets their movies to. The studios are in the business to make money. And American's only like the familiar. That's why we get comic book movies, a billion and 1 sequels, and a ton of needless remakes. America HATES originality.

This
Most movies that come with something different fails at the box-office.

On paper money was madE back but u have to factor in venue withholding and distributers share and I bet studios didn't get all that money back. John Carter especially was huge failure and money was def lost.

Mib3 is strange case not making money back domestically but killing in over seas. Def would've been a flop if not for international. Cuz the states didn't really care for it. They making a part 4 tho.

The majority (all except 2 or 3) of those Gosling movies that made profit did double or triple their budgets. The reason that you're not seeing a $500 million dollar profit on one movie is because he doesn't make $250,000,000 budget movies.

Funny the same thing seems to be happening in the videogames industry, balloon budgets, unrealistic projections etc.
Everyone is a copy cat the funny thing is the more you do it (stupid crazy budgets, incredible set pieces, whatever) the more people expect it, and it becomes a vicious cycle

I swear television is like one of the only thriving entertainment industries in terms of quality

battleship

lets be clear, john carter looked STUPID to begin with. it never should've been made. some films dont need to be made. period.

battleship wasnt a bad idea. but it was a bad move to make a movie where the entire thing is pretty much happening in one spot in the water. it only hit land towards the end for the most part. that right there. was DUMB. why would you put big money into that?

again when you saw the previews for both. you were thinking "probably some bs wanna be blockbuster film."
and thats exactly what both of those films were.
