After 16 years of top-notch work at KTVT, Steve Dennis -- the most aggressive television reporter on the Cowboys beat who always was primed to ask pointed questions -- has been told he is out.
Dennis' contract isn’t being renewed. He won't be back on the air.
Dennis said he was called in by management at KTVT and sister station KTXA (Channel 21) last Thursday, a day he was assigned to be at the golf tournament at Colonial, and told he was no longer needed.
“I’m looking for work,” Dennis said Friday. “The Cowboys season is bearing down on us and I have to be there.”
Dennis, 53, said station management told him, “We love you but we are doing away with your position.”
Gary Schneider, general manager at channels 11 and 21, confirmed, “there was no issue with his performance.”
Schneider said the stations would be cutting back on sports programming, particularly at Channel 21.
Channels 11 and 21 added Guy Rawlings to their sports staffs in November and more recently Jane Slater after she was taken off the air by 105.3 FM The Fan.
