son..I don't gotta make excuses for him...see u not really hearing what im saying and we going back and forth for nothing...once u see a ny cat diss the current crop of mainstream southern rappers...its he hates the south...son..ill tell u straight up ill rather bump some og southern hip hop..ugk, odd squad, geto boyz than listen to a lot of the stuff coming out of ny right..if u turn ur pride down some u would see we even agree on some stuff..i respect the south cuz to diss the south or blame the south for hip hops decline means i gotta graze scarface,3 stacks, ceelo who was my favorite rapper for a minute when the 1st goodie mobb dropped...and im not going to do that...but the truth is the truth and thats why im glad when a southern og like david banner steps up and call it what it is...this aint attack on the south and if i was from the south and proud of it i would want to distance my hood for anything thats corny...no matter how much light or money its getting...thats why u will never see me give love to a french whatever or any of those corny ny cats riding the souths wave...

the south is doing what it has always done which is stayed true to itself and the people that changed up to chase dollars resent the south for winning on its own terms...only reason why people bring this up is because ny fell off and didnt stay true and they looking for someone else to blame...

Its only obvious to people who share your ideals. That's the beauty of choice, ain't it ?

Whether its evolved for the better or worse is subjective...

The music business has undergone several changes from declining sales to new technology (streaming/social media)
Which has lowered the cost of production and investment in artist development as well as ROI.

Despite all this you expect consumers to have the same taste/ideals/standards as their predecessors ?

And I seem misguided ?

I don't expect anyone to have the same taste as me musically. But you need to understand that there's a growing number of people (young & older) that are calling current hip hop out & rightfully so. When you have to search for good music & it's not readily available then that's a problem. Now I don't mind searching for good music myself but I can understand why some can't stand this era because of that. And hip hop has definitely devolved not evolved.

What you mean not readily available ? Its 2015...you have Spotify, youtube, Tidal, Google Play and Amazon along with Datpiff/Livemixtapes and Soundcloud and countless blogs to discover new artists.

The ease of access and delivery mechanisms for content are pretty extensive.

Unlike when I had to queue for tapes/CDs, buy bootlegs and wait for radio to play my fave songs so I could dub.

Naysayers are a part of life. Everybody loves nostalgia... In 10/20 years these kids will sh!t on that generations music and reference music today as benchmarks of what music is.

There's nothing new or original about this discontent. I'm fine with this era because I like the production and technology.

What's worse is these people calling hip hop out but doing absolutely nothing tangible to effect the change they want to see...

So how serious are they in the first place ?

Yes music is more accessible but good music is a different definition which was my point? It shows my point & points keep going over your head. We'll just have to agree to disagree because we're on polar opposites in this discussion.

Thats the thing...u have a lot of ppl who are just radio ppl...if hot 97 started playing yodeling all day...these ppl would call that hot...especially if you can twerk to it..smh...than you have those who don't like the new music but because of family, work, etc they don't have or wanna take the time to find out what site they need to check to hear good hip hop...so they just stay with the classics until they get bored with that than they move on to other genres...than u have the "Heads"...they will dig..point u in the right direction...but ppl will call them old or stuck in the past...smh...problem is there are no options...some city s have 2 or more hip hop stations and they have the same stupid playlists... funny thing since we talk about the south..i read somewhere that u have old school hip hop stations popping up in the south and that they are doing crazy numbers..which tells me theres an audience for the real...the ones that dont wanna dig..and that even areas in the south have these ppl...so maybe as these station become more popular we will see a change as ppl will have another option other than what they being fed by commercial radio...

What ruined hip hop is when NYers tried to duplicate that southern sound. And the net
I'm from the west coast so i have no excess love for NY than any other place.

But i will say this. NEW YORK DID NOT RUIN HIPHOP TRYING TO SOUND LIKE THE SOUTH.

The reason...and ask yourself this question. What was the reason for NY mcees trying to get a southern sound? WHY DO THAT?

because NY radio and other outlets were not pushing NY sounding music. thats a FACT. therefore in order to make a living being a rapper. you had no choice but to get with the program and become Fake East coast south. did it sound like trash?YUP. but so does most of the south from the south stuff. but they have a following. so they will promote trash like its diamonds.

East coast wont get behind a garbage wanna be southern mcee from the east.
So its a damned if you do, damned if you dont situation.

What ruined hiphop IS THE SOUTH. it says it in this article.

Below the Mason-Dixon line, particularly in Atlanta, most music is broken in the strip club. The dancers determine whether or not the song being played is "hot" and that energy moves quickly throughout the club and subsequently the city, then on to the rest of the southeastern region.

Atlanta’s Coalition DJs, run by manager Nick Love, has a hand in what records are played in strip clubs citywide and with the crew’s extension into Miami and Detroit, they’re pushing their influence even further. Artists pay the Coalition to spin their new music for a predetermined amount of time.

The moment the south allowed STRIPPERS to dictate whats hot and whats not. Hiphop was developed for the most part BY MEN. we know there were some ladies that can thru and crushed the buildings. all praises due to them. and we know there were others that fell off that shouldnt have strictly due to them being ladies. that aint right either. BUT one thing we do know. as a listener. You never let women tell you what hiphop to listen to on an everyday basis. Sure your girl or some girl could put you up on ONE artist or one song here and wayyyyy over there. but no way shape or form should STRIPPERS(that are usually drunk and high), tell Dudes what's hot and what's not.

Women Like SIMPLE hooks, that they can sing too
Women Like Simple verses(just like in R&B songs)

why do you think when Joe Budden was talking to that fool Tax on his podcast.
Tax asked him about his Def jam days and if he was still mad about how L.A. Reid did him. Budden answered by saying, " L.A. Reid wanted everyone to turn in music that was ...LESS WORDY." Which means MORE LIKE R&B songs. Do you know why that is? Because L.A. Reid came from a R&B background. and he knows how to sell records to women. Not men.

The moment you allow women to dictate what hiphop sounds like. you will have mostly ignorant, super light hearted, less lyrical, the same clubish beats. because even when women respect better hiphop(they do, they still will tell you that the old stuff was better(those that are old enough to remember)...women have something in them that just resonates with sing alongs more so than even guys. i'm not sure what that is. or where that comes from. there's a reason women like to listen to SINGERS more then they do rappers. if they have a choice.

I'm from up north and southern hip hop is the only thing keeping the genre alive right now

Any article that starts with this "pillars of hip hop culture i.e. Graf breaking etc" is so fukking played, the angle is so played. It's been so long and so many of these same articles written

We are fukking tired of it.
you're a fool if you believe southern hiphop is keeping it alive. no its not. it has changed the game into one big JINGLE> if you're not down with making jingle music you cant even sign up for hiphop and make a living at it. sure a very very very small batch of rappers are pulling it off. but they are not getting any where close to the shine these jingle rappers are getting.

Hiphop was never going to die in its more lyrical form mixed in with a healthy does of fun music like it was in the 90's and super early 2000's. The reason it wasnt going to die is because WHITE PEOPLE are the majority in America. and All the white people that grew up on the golden era hiphop, Respects That kind of Hiphop. Sure they will have fun to the nonsense from the south and laugh at it. But there is zero respect for it. There will be no college courses about Future. White people still buy most of the music in this country. If you start giving them cotton candy crap that you can get from anywhere. why pay top dollar for it? why buy that album? this is another reason why album sales dropped like crazy. it wasnt all downloads and bootlegs that did it. the quality fell off the face of the earth so people figured, i'll listen to that club song. but aint paying my hard earned money for the entire album when i can only stomach that one song.

this is why the south cant sell albums, they can only move singles. for the most part. or those that try to sound like them. same situation.

the south ruined hiphop by continously allowing DRUNK/HIGH STRIPPERS dictate whats hot.

Now if that were not the case. Right from Atlanta i would get Future, Outkast, Goodie Mob, and Luda. all from the same place, same area. i would be able to get all of those different types of sounds and quality of hiphop due to those being pushed to the forefront based on quality. Future is cool IN THE STRIP CLUB. on a friday night going to the CLUB, hitting the town. But not on a Wednesday at 1pm. thats what dudes would've voted for. DIVERSITY. women want the same sign along song with the same beat. these ladies are DRUNK and HIGH, lets not forget that point.

There is also a segment of users who do not use terrestrial radio?

The advantage of technology is some of the apps curate similar artists and playlists.

So if commercial radio isn't doing it for you ...there are multiple options

So WTF are you talking about ? Breh I dunno when you were born
but i'm so grateful I can bump entire libraries on demand 24/7
without wearing out a physical CD or scratching a tape .....

Those stations playing old school music are doing something
about it.... They are serious about it not casual fans reflecting on nostalgia
and enforcing their jaded standards on the current generation

Good music is subjective...what about that don't you get ?

I like this era. You clearly don't. So either do something about it or keep it pushing.
