There are alternatives and unlike the 90s....you can stream and discover new artists for free.

Get out of your own way and stop comparing 2015 to previous eras.

No.

Hip-hop is the only genre the doesn't respect it's foundations.
If y'all love this chit without the words, let's see how much y'all start paying to hear instrumentals at the club.
Fucc outta here with that clown chit...

Yes.

Hip hop is constantly evolving... That's what keeps it young, fresh and innovative.

The flow and beat in this era are more important than message and lyrics.

And you cant take it ....

If they want better music they should create it or support artists they like. This isn't an issue....its nostalgic gripe by older heads and hate from backpackers.

Looking towards mainstream to validate your own taste is a fools errand.

The greatest thing about this era is ease of access and technology.

I understand & search for good music. It doesn't mean I'm supposed to like or go along with the direction of music nowadays & not criticize it at times. I want the bar raised for what's hot & considered good & many other people would cosign that. It doesn't mean I'm stuck in some time capsule wishing for the good ole days. It means I have a higher standard.

"Takeoff about to have the same rise Lil Wayne did to become the best rapper alive"-StillNotsoft of thecoli

You think nikkas like saying bullshyt for fun:mjcry:,the south is in a good space right now....they just need some help and nikkas from other regions to stop helping themselves to they styles and causing over saturation....How the south gon get blamed because of the lack of noise other regions is making?they can help it that lack of noise got us paying attention to every bum outta they city who should really only be getting shine on a local level....Your aware of all the garbage that comes out of the city because sadly your own city aint making no noise or got people talking:mjcry:

Your standard isn't higher or more virtuous .

Its just different. You have different expectations and different criteria.

So do a lot of people... And ultimately how bad can it be ?

Is it bad enough for you to go and do something about it besides criticize ?

I dunno.....

I hate the erosion of particular values that use to be held within the culture. Ex, back in the day there was a legit cost to an artist career if fans perceived the music as copying somebody else's sound. These values acted as pressures to keep all the different type of hip hop fans satisfied imo.

However, today, things have changed as the culture continues to evolve, and they look to be going more off course among the younger members of black american sub-culture as time goes by -- in NYC at least.

In Queens, the sound has completely become southern in style among the upcoming artists. So much so that you would think you're in Atlanta, and I suspect the reason for this is because nobody values having their own sound(as much as an artist possibly can).

:russell: The coli has multiple threads on this same topic daily. But at least those threads read better. :scusthov:. This article is trash. The south has been keeping rap afloat for over a decade now. It's one of the reasons why it's the most popular genre in the world :lawd:

No.

"Evolving" means to change, but it also means to keep what made you good.
Flow and beat is integral (it always was) - but message and lyrics is the "hip" in "Hip-Hop".

You shouldn't take that. That's subpar.

Evolution is to change, to develop, to adapt.

Keeping whats good is subjective....

Perspectives change, technology changes

At least now you have ease of access and can find whole artist discographies
that suit you needs

I grew up bouncing between the southeast and the tri state and as a teenager in the late 90s, The east coast was the most smug and ignorant about anything past the turnpike. The south was just ignorant. They didnt care or wasted as much time hating and clowning east coast music. East coast accents and slang just came off as insane and weird to most people in the south. I remember listening to Liquid Swords in the house in 96 and my aunt thought I was listening to devil music. :sadcam:. She asked me if I was smoking weed and dumped my dresser drawers. Outkast didnt get the side eye... But when i moved to CT, UGK 8ball/MJG Goodie mobb Scarface got me called bama and country and all kinds of shyt.:mjcry:...To sum it up ..I think the south "won".. Because NY dudes eat crow and copy. Not the other way around... Since ever. And ultimately the culture clash is the reason people :pacspit: so much.
