i'm a new york head, but i believe there are alot of reasons why some people assume hip hop sucks now.
1. White People -white people and record companies owned by white people are trying to make money off what is popping and don't care of the culture of hip hop.
2. The South -y'all did create crunk music where bruhs didn't say anything but yell nonsense on a track and it sells, this lead to more bullshyt, and this is why rappers now are mumbling and not saying no lyrical shyt. i still love Outkast, 8Ball & MJG, Goodie Mob tho
3. 50 cent - 50 was almost after every prominent east coast rapper. some bruhs believe he is the reason why east coast hip hop started to decline. i heard plenty of cats blame 50 cent for the death of east coast hip hop
4. radio stations - they get paid by record companies to play their artists music instead of fellow local artists, look for example Hot 97, Ebro loves not putting local NY artists on the radio but will always put a song sent by a record company for some bread.
5. the fans - the fans don't care about the culture and will hear whatever is popular, also most fans just want to party.
6. females or feminine males - some say most hip hop songs are geared towards women or feminine males nowadays.
7. people bumping music - people seem to want, quantity instead of quality. people will forget about you if you aren't consistently releasing new music
8. the production/the beat - the producer makes a banging ass beat that sometimes makes you straight up forget about lyrics, the beat makes you want to get turnt up or dance. you like it cause it's catchy and it's just amazing to you.
9. the hook - like i said for the production/the beat, it is catchy and makes you want to get turnt up or dance. also it does make you forget lyrics. you will find yourself singing along something that is catchy. for example : ''i'm in love with the coco, i got it for the lolo''. lol

Chicago brehs have southern accents. St Louis brehs have southern accents. It's not the accents, it's the willingness to accept any deal and keep making party music. They don't make trouble unless it's among themselves. South nikkas are the mexicans of the rap game. They work hard at making garbage products that can fill spaces...for low pay.

I dont know if the south ruined rap. I think NYC got to taking itself too serious and stuck in the past. Then lost its identity. The south is giving hip hop direction, for better or worse, and forcing people to change their expectations. South is also making it cool to have fun again. There are rappers like Lupe and Kendrick too. High key its not a bad time for rap, and even more high key it's NO THANKS to NYC

but it has "lost value" over the years...because labels threw artist development outta the window and looked for "cheap thrills"....
In saying that, these labels are going down there looking for any and everyone who "raps" and can make them a few bucks without actually putting effort into them financially...Or even caring about them talent wise...
So a group who could be in the vein of UGK wont get the time of day while a 2 chainz knockoff will be in NYC with a deal on the table...
We might fukk with a record, but 2 years from now, they wont be cared about...
Cats like 2 Pistols, Jibbs,hell even Plies to lesser extent are done..

It's also the south's fault for putting out garbage music as a region for years. You can't blame cacs for everything. The south as a whole needs more artists with substance
