It’s been gone…you can dig it up and bury it again tho if that’s what you on, 🤷🏽‍♂️. Social media killed it imo…opened up the floodgates for any and every one to get in…from artists to voices to whoever…now them outsiders/cornballs are the overwhelming majority.

i don't get this thread - hiphop and any other subculture died a long time ago

the favoritism was always an issue back in the day as well, but now with social media that shyt has gone into full overdrive. everything is sports now, people picking teams and a majority of them never budging for a second. all the gatekeepers are dead and destroyed, everybody gets to participate - but that also means that the artists themselves are bigger than ever and there is just way more money in it

none of this is special or specific to hiphop: don't wanna sound lefty but ultimately this is what happens with any subculture under the current style of capitalism that runs the world :manny:

best way to enjoy this is to sit back, pick the songs you like, and just enjoy the bullshyt for that it is: shallow entertainment. like.. the current big beef is two multi-millionaires writing poems about each other :dead: all this shyt stupid now

It's just not the same game you grew up watching.
It's getting to the point where it's not even the same game I grew up watching.

You can either get with it or hit the exit ramp on the right but the game's gonna keep moving with or without you
:manny:

Just like the NBA and everything else in life.

Above the fray.
This ain't what we signed up for back in the day.
Just have to use the ignore button. If you're a fan from the old era, you remember when hip hop was it's own thing, operating outside of the mainstream. You had to dig and look for it, stay up at night to hear it.
Now that it is fully mainstream and everywhere, it's taken for granted.

There are discussions about lyrics, history, etc...just drowned out by the other stuff. And have to dig and look for it, just like before.

If you're in the middle, you recognize that this shyt ain't what it used to be...I got outraged a little bit but I stepped back and realized the game changed ages ago. Sexxy Redd is one of the biggest rappers in the game and she doesn't have that much talent. Macklemore won a Grammy because he made a song about gay marriage. Folk thought that the 2018 freshman from XXL were gonna fail because of that terrible freestyle but they ended up being the closest thing to superstars we had since the big three(and the best RAPPER in that cypher, while successful to an extent, is the least known lol).

Drake stans are running victory laps and telling our old asses to get on, Kendrick fans are saying that this is flagrant, Drake stans are doing the whataboutism with Heart pt 5, wash rinse repeat. Sad thing is Drake's actual raps were good, but we're not talking about that as much. I'm at the point to where I'm gonna enjoy hip hop for what it is... taking it to whatever I thought it was is an impossible feat at this point. I'm 42 and only a small portion of the kids 18-25(family, neighbors, coworkers etc) are even invested anyway. The big three is old as hell to them lol
