No one, not even the rappers take it seriously

Drake existing is a prime example

This is true.

But why would they? Look at the landscape. These dudes don’t even feel the pressure of needing to make good music anymore because people are too scared to tell them they're wack. They know they can get by now.

If you say this about hip hop, you were never a fan and should go listen to something else. You never hear any other music genre being disrespected like this

Been like this for the longest though.

I'm not saying it hasn't got worse or that a change isn't needed. But I joined SOHH in 2001...The Spot was just wall to wall Nas/Jay threads. Then it was Dipset stan wars, then G-Unit fukkery.

Now the music discussion has got even worse but the reality is it's a reflection of the quality of the music. There ain't actually that much worth discussing. The music quality at all levels has hit a wall. So people have got more invested in drama and stupidity.

The rise of the hip hop podcast has definitely been detrimental to the culture..Same is happening in the NBA. I don't want to read these stupid fukkin takes being aggregated from podcasts done solely to generate clicks. There's no value to it and it has dumbed down the discussion.

It was nasty on the boards back then, but that definetly was the embryo for social media stan culture wars now

Back then it was confined to a few popping message board but can you imagine if 2001 or even 03-05 was on twitter? It be annoying and the engagement would make it feel worse and igger than it is.

We had some Dip Set stan who had a username called Anne's Coffin at the peak of that FNM shyt

Also @Awesome Wells you mention how at least on SOHH people would talk about the music back then

For a bit yeah but man by the mid 2000s especially with the G Unit craze you remember it wasnt even about that it was like "Yo this aint gonna sell records" and people started viewing shyt like A&Rs. Thats why I was with all the Hip Hop is Dead talk until the blog era came through lol

This shyt goes in circles fam but I know it feels worse cause the circle is bigger and more annoying and more outsiders. But they'll always some pocket of stuff thats for us

Death To Spookism
Trolls came out to play, giving a clear example of the bullshyt, putting all that to the side though. It's really frustrating from a creators POV, I've stayed up many a night writing or making beats.
Having an idea stuck in your head for days on end, only for the eureka moment to hit you at 3 in the morning is truly maddening when you have to be up at 5 to be somewhere for 7.
Meanwhile you see folks getting praised for doing the most rudimentary shyt, no time nor care necessary.

Yeah, by 2005, it was definitely dying.

Earlier on, 2000-04-ish, was the heyday. That's when you had high quality threads and actual music convos. Really dope gang of posters back then, with a focus on good music talk. Once the new wave moved in and started getting into all the drama and antics, the whole vibe shifted and never got better.

Forgot about that :pachaha:

shyt was vulgar. Most of us on the board were teenagers or in our early 20s so it was extra disrespectful and ignorant.
