When people start co-singing garbage, you unsurprisingly...get more trash, modern hip-hip/rap is simply a reflection of that.
Not necessarily with the original post, but one major reason why hip hop is in the state it is today is cause of a segment of people that faked listened to Lil’ B’s music, in turn, aiding an entire generation of folks that listened to and made parody music disguised as actual music. People like that allowed goofies like Lil Mabu, Lil Pump, and Island Boys to have real careers. Those are the people I blame the most, all yall dudes that were running around talking about “BasedGod please fukk my bytch” and other fatherless activities.

EDIT: an even better current example is any Ice Spice thread. She’s a VERY attractive chick that comes across very genuine in her interviews, but people know damn well she’s a terrible rapper and a terrible performer and have trolled themselves into anticipating her music.

This ain't what we signed up for back in the day.

One week, we got dudes apologizing for making diss records and pulling them off of platforms because it wasn't in their heart to do it. Few days later, fools are talking about how dudes don’t even write most of their songs and how "it doesn't matter" because "that's not how records are made today". Literally doubling down on how "lyricism doesn't mean anything today".

Then we got fake manufactured beef that got these bums using AI for diss tracks now, and R&B singers releasing diss tracks. If you look at most of the threads on here, damn near all of them are about drama and some beauty salon gossip sh*t about rappers "beefing", and how so-and-so on whatever podcast thinks this and that about it. And in between all of those millions of threads, you'll catch the occasional "rappers on trial" thread, with all the couch attorneys we have on here predicting how much time dudes will serve or not serve.

The difference between now and the old SOHH days, is that nobody actually talks about the music anymore. Look at how trash the culture has become. This sh*t is like Basketball Wives. The losers, casuals and posers are running the damn asylum now. The standard is so low, that nobody even seems to notice that wackness is the new normal. All the rules and criteria that Hip Hop was built on has been tossed in the bushes so that the corny and less-knowledgable can function in this sh*t. And the problem with the OG's and the older fans, is that everyone is too scared to call it out because they don’t want to be called "old" or "haters".

The situation with Mos Def is a perfect example. Dude told the truth, but then he got scared that he was looking bitter, so he tried to scale it back. Every OG who sits back and is scared to call out this bullsh*t, that's been allowed to change this culture, is a sucka and has failed Hip Hop. Legends with mad classic albums are scared to call certain sh*t wack because they're scared of how their honest opinion is going to make them look. They're ALL mad quiet now. Back in the day, if you thought some sh*t was wack, you just said it. You got old ass dudes on here who are scared to call out sh*t because they don’t want to get flamed for being older, as if that's a bad thing. The damn culture is shambles. And if you don’t think there's people who are from outside the community, who manufactured this shift and are making mad money off this decline in the culture, then you're an idiot.

Long story short, Hip Hop seriously needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. Because all of the forced drama, antics and mediocrity that's become "normal" and gets a pass all day everyday, is not even close to what real Hip Hop looks like. And the more people stay silent and play along with it, just to fit in and hide their real opinions, the more we have to deal with the gentrified version of what was created for the people 50 years ago.

This beef has shown me that there's no going back, shyt is changed forever. The way podcasters are being used as paid spokesman, the way (white and Indian owned) gossip rags dominate how rap news is consumed, the way music journalists have been pushed out, etc. Not just hip hop BTW. Look at what's going on with the new Taylor Swift album, where some publications are reviewing it without listing the article author for fear of death threats. Look at the way Rolling Stone hired a literal stan to review the album. This wasn't even happening when pop acts were selling millions of records in a week back in the 90s.

We prob aren't far from a legendary music artist's estate agreeing to let a label release new, fake music with the help of AI. It's been used to "restore" a Beatles song already, how long before we get 100% fully AI shyt from Tina Turner or the other artists whose catalogs have been sold?
My biggest fear is a fully AI album by either Mike or Prince.

We are in trouble. The AI stuff is going to be the death to all of us if it doesn't get regulated.

Agree with everything said. It’s sad how many phony people there all across all social media platforms that thrive because of the destruction of the foundation of the culture. That’s life. It’s like with kids and sports. You can’t talk sports with these kids like back in the day. They just watch highlights. Same thing goes for Hip-Hop they just skim the surface for the easy shyt to talk about trying to go viral. shyt is a disease.

True.

You can see how the system works now. Back when everyone spoke about black issues, taught lessons in the music and there was less drama, the music started to influence the people. So in real life, the messages were of a reflection of what you'd see in the listeners. Nowadays, you see the same, but in reverse. And this decline in the culture makes them more money, so they focus on pushing out more trash and drama to capitalize on it.

Nah, not even close. I said on here mad times that the OG's need to be putting out music still. I have a problem with them NOT releasing new sh*t. I said dudes like Daddy-O and YZ still make albums and feel they're better than they were in the 80's, and that if you're a musician, you never truly "retire" from creating. I wrote wild posts on this not too long ago.

I don’t think anyone in music should ever stop creating. So yeah, I'm very serious.

Drake really got these Kendrick stans in their feelings. That's what this thread is really about. Their favorite MC lost and got bullied and embarrassed by a mixed Canadian. Now they wanna cry about the state of hip hop as if that's something new.. that 90s lyrical style hip hop been dead over 15 years. Don't cry now cause Kenny lost and Cole is p*ssy.

We had a whole era of dudes literally mumbling on records with no discernable lyrics and yall talking about people having ghostwriters in 2024 as if that matters. Dudes don't even rap no more and yall crying about one the few acts that still does. Drake carried the corpse of hip hop for the past 10 years and right now is the only one carrying the competitive spirit of battle rap while Kendrick and j Cole are scared.

this only applies if kendrick doesn’t respond…

the fact that a mf that got pissed on by one of TI’s patnas (and didn’t do shyt but get up and walk away upset), punched by diddy, seeded up a chick in a 3-some (allegedly) and got bullied into claiming his kid, got treated like a flip by rihanna and publicly simped for her, got exposed for having other artists write his raps, has questionable relationships wit young women, paints his nails, and is the only mf that got his panties in a bunch over the control verse is touted as the GOAT is a disgraceful time in hip-hop…with that yachty reference track this nikka’s entire discography is in question to me…

drake convinced mfs that if you don’t listen to his music you don’t get p*ssy and mfs crafted their whole identity around that…

it’s ironic this is the most non-p*ssy getting generation in history smfh…

What is crazy about Hip-Hop going so global is the sheer amount of posers and wannabe’s influencing the culture is at a monumental level. Never would you ever think that the culture could ever become this diluted. As much as I appreciate Hip-Hop going universal it also has many drawbacks. I’m not even just talking about Hip-Hop going across seas. Just the expansion of all cultures across all states, different regions, ratchet culture, etc.

The irony in this post. So called hip hop purist but all that you mentioned about drake is gossip and nothing to do with the actual music. All of that about Drake may very well be true but it doesn't change that fact that diss record wise and music wise Drake got his foot planted firmly on kendrick's neck and is up 2-0.

Maybe you should give kenny some help and DM him all the gossip you posted so he can include it in a response. Seems like he needs all the help he could get.

The system :mjlol:

What you dudes are really mad about is that the masses don't consume the music you consume so now you are whining about a genre of music is dead

Hip-Hop is gonna be here tomorrow and 100 years from now, whether you consider it Hip-Hop or not is immaterial

Older people in general refuse to accept change. I'm a man of cliches. I always say "Dinosaurs will die"

People have been screaming "hip-hop is dead" since the 90s.
