Help me understand why remote work is a detriment?

I saw a post on LinkedIn about work from home. It was all out war. I was surprised so many people were pro office.

Talking about work culture and teamwork. You literally can collab over teams just as easy as in person IMO.

Some people don't have a life outside work. That's where they mingle, talk sports, shows, see actual women (@Roger king ) and even get a chance to be somebody.

I don't think enough people are looking at the bigger picture when it comes to this shyt.

If you are a manager/director, what do you think the end result of explaining to your director/shareholders that people are no longer needed in the office.

There's part of me that thinks, in a perverse way, they're getting people to deconstruct the arguments they'd present when they decide to close up shop and employ people in cheaper parts of the country/world.

I'm for working remotely but for the sake of security, a hybrid model is best.

My old employer just issued mandatory RTO per my friend. It's unfortunate for him because he works in supply chain, so he is on calls all day with suppliers and vendors. Being in office actually slows him down because he gets distracted by other people in phone calls sitting around him. People in those types of jobs should really get private offices or just be allowed to WFH.

Control, that's it. The work got done regardless so it's not a production issue

The messed up part about it is potentially losing the ability to telework. Feds had those options before covid. Most have been hybrid for years
This is true. Prior to Covid telework wasn’t as extensive but again still there.

Another issue being that Trump seems to want more feds to be contractors imo. This makes it easier to get more money to the lobbyists.

I know in my agency a lot of the OG’s who came back will prob call it quits this time.

It’s not these companies want to feel like they are kings lording over serfs so they need you in the office.

The only potentially valid argument is company culture is eroded, but Lowkey if the company isn’t actually investing in company culture by doing events and things like retreats then they are full of shyt, and also you can still do that through a hybrid work model which allows people to have work life balance and go to the office once or twice a week.

I'm slowly coming to this realization. That and there's a disconnect from the higher ups.

The bosses are workaholics with no real hobbies and probably don't like being home. They don't seem to understand that not everybody has this burning passion for the company. And when you aren't passionate about something you aren't going above and beyond working long hours everyday. People just want to do satisfactory work then go home.

There's a misconception that being in the office magically increases your productivity by 1,000% and that every second you're in the office you're churning out work like a robot on an assembly line. This couldn't be farther from the truth. I have literally seen people in the office put up an away/out of office message while they sat there nodding off or talking to others in the same office.

This whole "get back to the office" thing is nothing but a massive disruption of work and people's morale.

If they really are going to eliminate WFH completely, then the next time there's a national emergency, a snow storm, or whatever, don't come asking people if they can take their computers home and work from home and continue to produce. You can't be yo-yo'ing people back and forth, pick a side and stay there.

Also, remote work was used as a recruiting tool to get talented people to apply for Gov. jobs. I know there's a narrative out there that Gov. workers are all Cletus from the Simpsons, but there are some really good and talented people that came onboard during/after COVID because of the possibility of working remote.

Thank you!!! You can't tell me the people who want all this coworker interaction have friends outside of work. Anyone with friends beyond coworkers would not be that panini pressed to interact with their coworkers

Productivity will not be hindered if we don't chit chat about our weekends at the copier

They don't. This will be a logistical nightmare
In some cases they will have to throw money at this problem (to acquire office spaces), and we're not talking about a couple thousands either...
Also, from what I've heard we're not talking about accomplishing this within two weeks either...

ITS ABOUT TAXES. COMPANIES GET HUGE TAX BREAKS FOR EMPLOYING PEOPLE IN CERTAIN AREAS. CITIES/STATES GIVE INCENTIVES TO GET BIG COMPANIES TO DRAW PEOPLE INTO ONE AREA SO BUSINESSES CAN PREY ON THEM.

BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND SOMETIMES DINNER IS BOUGHT NEAR THE WORKPLACE. OTHER SHOPPING IS DONE THERE ALSO. OTHERWISE, PEOPLE EAT AT HOME AND SHOP NEAR THEIR HOMES. THAT KILLS ALL THE TAXES GENERATED BY THE WORKFORCE IN ONE SPOT.

THAT'S WHY ALL THE BIG COMPANIES ARE TRYING TO END IT. THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES BENEFITING FROM TAX BREAKS. SMALLER COMPANIES DON'T REALLY CARE BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T GETTING ANY BREAKS ANYWAY.

AMAZON, TESLA, FORD, AND MANY BANKS ARE HEAVILY DEPENDENT ON TAX INCENTIVES TO MAKE ENDS MEET. THAT'S ALSO WHY THESE COMPANIES FALL IN LINE WHEN THE GOVERNMENT SWINGS LEFT OR RIGHT.

EXAMPLE: DEI
WHEN THE GOVERNMENT WAS GIVING TAX INCENTIVES FOR DEI PROGRAMS, THEY ALL JUMPED ON THE WAGON. AS SOON AS TRUMP WON, DEI WENT POOF. THEY NEVER GAVE A CRAP ABOUT DEI IN THE FIRST PLACE.

ITS JUST TAXES.
