Help me understand why remote work is a detriment?

The Truth
That's me in the office. At home I have no distractions, water cooler conversations, breakfast/lunch outings, and it's cold as hell in there so we suffer. Working from home/hybid was a lifesaver for my mental health

I get more done because I have no excuses

It’s so bullshyt. Most of the time, no one is even doing shyt but running their mouths about football, their family problems, their kids, etc.

I know more about these peoples family lives than I know with my own family and I don’t really ask

Some people don’t deserve to WFH though and sometimes it’s even used to show favoritism (happened against me once).

I do not mind hybrid work though. I would prefer it sometimes. Sometimes I prefer people who don’t do shyt to not come in. But I’m more of a fan of 4 day work weeks with teams rotating days.

Because they said so
It was a special circumstance but it's ironic that the economy was booming with hiring going through the roof when everyone was fully remote :francis:
People already mentioned the impact on commercial real estate and adjacent businesses, like who df is eating at subway if not for it being the closest option during a short lunch break
But an aspect I don't see mentioned often is the impact on suburban tax income generated by office parks being right outside of major cities. Those suburbs usually have tax incentives for businesses to locate there and all the payroll tax goes to that county despite most workers not actually living there. Not sure how many cities are set up like that but all the philly suburbs are like that and lot of areas of NJ are basically separated like residential areas and office park areas often times in different towns/counties

It’s not these companies want to feel like they are kings lording over serfs so they need you in the office.

The only potentially valid argument is company culture is eroded, but Lowkey if the company isn’t actually investing in company culture by doing events and things like retreats then they are full of shyt, and also you can still do that through a hybrid work model which allows people to have work life balance and go to the office once or twice a week.
You make a valid point but events like retreats are bullshyt. :beli: People have to act like they are connecting with people they don't like and continue not to like.

There is residual economic benefits to people going to work. Offices get leased, lunch is bought, transportation is used and office supplies are purchased. People working from home decreases all that.
This^^^

Also I would venture to say half the ppl wfh are abusing their time on the clock. I've had neighbors that admitted to work two jobs at once bc of wfh. That's a conflict to any job basically...

But feds were onsite a few times a week. The notion that majority of feds were remote is a lie. Yes some agencies never lifted their max telework allowance after covid, but most did and put people on 40%-50% status. Unless people have reasonable accommodations, most were hybrid before and after covid

The "get back to work" "go back to the office" talk is hilarious because that applies to like 10% of feds
I don't believe they even have enough room for everyone to return. The agency I worked for there was never enough office space. That's what most people are complaining about on r/Fednews sub.

Right, I don't mind go in a few days a week.

When I'm in the office, I'm barely at my desk. To be honest, I use those days to run errands downtown

If I have to leave my house, I'm making it beneficial to me

Also, being hybrid cuts down on people taking off. Instead of taking off for doctors appointments/deliveries, just switch your days around

I saw a post on LinkedIn about work from home. It was all out war. I was surprised so many people were pro office.

Talking about work culture and teamwork. You literally can collab over teams just as easy as in person IMO.
