I've eaten at sonic quite a few times and even with the "car hops" (they don't do the skate thing anymore in most places) I'VE NEVER seen anyone get tipped. Maybe they do things differently up in Ohio but they aren't getting tipped like servers if at all. Most people don't have an expectation to tip at things they classify as fast food restaurants in their mind.

and yes it's a federal law, if the wage + tips is higher than minimum wage then you can do that. So this is alternate and false news....the workers are being paid minimum wage. Again this is probably due to the empoyer wanting to incentivize good work and customer service, which Sonic tries to market. Or it could be that the franchise wasn't turning the desirable profit and maybe the servers were being paid way above what is normal (inclusive of tips).

95% of people don't tipbat sonics. With that being a tipped position they can legally do that. It's morally wrong but not legally. Sonic isn't a place that asks or have ads to tip so it shouldn't be counted as a tipped position to me. They should get hourly pay like everybody else

Sounds highly illegal because you gotta go by state laws... they just outright telling the workers you getting downgraded to $4 an HR... plus TIPS but what about the cooks and other workers who not the servers...
