I always thought sonics kids make more money on tips, they probably get a lot of tips when their is actual work ...owners probably don't want to pay for people standing around (when not busy) and incentive good customer service.

Does this forum look like a high school debate team? Why must you take the worst idea and come up with the clumsiest solution?

Wait... a owner can do that?:ohhh: Cut the wage to below minimum wage?

And I get that Sonic has the car hop things where they could potentially get tips.... but they also have a regular drive thru. So the people who are not delivering food have no way of getting tips. Now they are stuck working at 4 bucks a hour straight :picard:

The cherry limeades are delicious tho :mjcry:

clumsiest solution - you mean the solution that many restaurants in america uses?

I hate to say, you're one of the dumbest posters on here from an IQ perspective yet you're in every economic thread. And it's not like you bring anything to the discussion, no alternate view, no common sense, and not even opinion that are of your own hatching...you just come in with condescending remarks and attitude.

the funny thing is in Taiwain the Jh sounds like K....so your name is actually Koon

i'm kidding

cherry limeades are bombs...but it's all ice...i switched to cherry limeade slushies, trust me on this one!

and yes it's a federal law, if the wage + tips is higher than minimum wage then you can do that. So this is alternate and false news....the workers are being paid minimum wage. Again this is probably due to the empoyer wanting to incentivize good work and customer service, which Sonic tries to market. Or it could be that the franchise wasn't turning the desirable profit and maybe the servers were being paid way above what is normal (inclusive of tips).

The problem here is that owners don't actually pay tipped employees min wage when it's slow.

I dont understand, what $4?
What is their hourly pay?

$4 is below minimum wage
Min wage there is 8.55 an hour unless the business makes under 290k in that case min wage is the fed min wage.

The employees make 4 and hour plus tips. They receive a max tip credit up to 4.55 an hour which puts them at min wage if they are bringing in at least 4.55/hr in tips. If they are not reaching min wage then the company is required by law to pay them min wage.

Using deduction we can safely assume that many of these workers were making more than min wage before and now make less under the new model. Or option B, they were making min wage before, but were also taking in tips therefore earning well above min wage.

Either way, this new model is taking money out of their pockets.
