The Ummah!
:wow:

he was good across the board

life experience? he has a story that interview committees like to hear. he grew up a lot tougher than your average student at these top mba programs

he did well in undergrad gpa wise

hes worked at a really good company for 3 years

are you trying to get into a top ranked school? you dont need a 700. look at the 25-75 percentile scores

wharton: 540-790
stanford: 580-790
northwestern: 640-740

if you can score in your schools range you should be straight

i got another homeboy who had a low gpa (something like a 2.7), scored in the low 600s on the gmat, had limited work experience and still got a full scholarship to a school right outside the top 70.

Yea bro I wana get into a top ranked school, at least top 25. shyts gona be hard I know. I read Stanford turned down people with perfect 800gmat scores :why:

What about nikkas like the Nigerian I gotta compete with smart brothers from the motherland like that too :ohlawd: thanks for the info though bruh, I appreciate it.

the nigerian is an idiot

black males are underrepresented, it's not too many brothers trying to go get their mba at those top 25 programs.

Great thread. If anybody has any more advice to lend, please do so. I'm studying for GMAT before this year's end and trying to knock down the CMA and CPA before graduation:sadbron:

Studying for the GMAT right now. As someone who sucks at math, the quant section is def not that hard. However, I forgot a bunch of the basics so it's really a matter of practice. Haven't gotten to the verbal yet, but like others said, and based on what I saw, there shouldn't be to big or a learning curve for most folks.

It's a long test though, damn. :sadbron:

Get the Manhattan Prep material, stay away from the Kaplan book or Princeton Book, also get the Official Guide Prep Questions (it has like 800 questions). I didn't have the Manhattan prep material and wish I did, :wow: I did not study well at all, but I accomplished what I wanted (I can't remember what I got), but the test is bull. Make sure you get the newest material, they have a new section on the GMAT that started in June of this year (Integrated Reasoning). Before you take the GMAT think about what you want it for (an MBA), if its a requirement for the position you want, fine take the test, but please don't think the test and an MBA will move you up in corporate America, the cost for school in my opinion is not worth the money in MOST cases. I did it because my job was going to pay for me to go to school, took advantage of their money.

i did horribly. I had the kaplan prep book but I felt that the math questions I saw on the test were much harder than what I saw in the book. I got a 480 but I got into Baruch College which was my #1 :manny:

I've been out of school and in the workforce for 5 years. But I graduated with and engineering degree from Georgia Tech, so you know I'm smart ya dig....

Anyway.

I studied for this test for 3 months and even tho I was pulling 700's on the practice test, I only got a 600 on the real test. I didn't even finish the math section. Whatever you do, DO NOT LEAVE ANY QUESTIONS BLANK!!! :damn:

I got a 6.0 on my essays tho. They added a new section, called Integrated Reasoning. I'm contemplating taking the GMAT again but I'm not about that study life. Got damn that shyt was the pits. (working 8-10 hrs, coming home and studying 3 hours)

I think I owe it to myself to at least get a 700. I'm tryna go to a top 15 school FOR FREE tho. Hopefully my undergrad GPA along with my work experience at a Fortune 100 company will help.

my dude peep game, I'm guessing you want to be an accountant right? First accounting firms don't care where you went to school as long as its accredited, so I wouldn't stress over a gmat. you're only going to grad school to satisfying the 150 right? Most MSA or MST programs care about your gpa more than gmat score(you still should be in the 500-600 range though).

Now, why waste your money and time on a CMA, I have meet some very successful people in the accounting world but have never met anyone with a cma. now the cpa is key, I did Becker's fast pass in the summer right after graduation before my start date, its grueling but worth it. trying to prepare and take the tests while still in school is tough.

I work in tax for a big four firm, made senior in one year I'm eating. oh yeah there's a 5k bonus for passing the cpa too.

good luck with what your doing and keep your gpa high.
