I know I just like if a greater swath of students have the opportunity to have a brilliant professor - as opposed to its being concentrated within a small cadre of schools.

when I was in undergrad I still remember there was an older breh (probably in his late 30s) who was a pan afrikanist and would be in class talking about African socialism and folks would be clowning him.

as ive gotten older I now understand why the militant black folks tend to come from PWIs as HBCUs introduce a certain level of comfort which is dangerous if it is being used to groom black youth for a path that doesnt benefit them.

This might be before your time, but the late Dr. John Henrik Clarke always called out and criticized the tenuous position of those selected by the mainstream to be talking heads/public intellectuals/spokesmen for (insert group).

Decades ago, Clarke and West butted heads about.....coincidentally,............. Black/jewish relations. Jewish control over Blacks in academia,
West stayed on topic, and always showed respect to Clarke, but I'm sure JHC's criticism haunts him because it's played out pretty much like he said it would.

I realize he wants the prestige of Harvard tenure. But, I guarantee you he would have already had tenure at Howard, Morehouse, Hampton, NC A&T etc.. .

I tried to get him to speak at my chiropractic school and that nikka refused to come down on his price and things he demanded to speak, I’m all for getting it how you live, but every school doesn’t have that capital allotted towards a black organization, I’m sure he’s a good guy and has his detractors, but that whole ordeal turned me away

I'm not tryna bash you because your organization sounds good, but people can barely book a local artist to perform for 10k. His folks were probably expecting to hear "oh wow, only 10k??!!" but got "the way my checking account is set up..."

If its just business, you guys should give it another shot now that you have the 10k.

I’ve kind of explained it was not me initially low balling him, i explained to the powers to be that said could he lower it, he/his people were smug about not budging, at the end of the day i can’t be mad, get your paper, but don’t turn around and ask me to be outraged when Harvard doesn’t want to play ball with you, so you can lay in the cut recycle your same lectures and collect a 100k check

I mean a 10 year contract and what is essentially a board chair is nothing to sneeze at though. Tenure is more of a feather in the cap. Don't get me wrong I understand being upset but getting paid for the next decade (a top salary at that) is not exactly a bad consolation prize.

It's really not but I almost got Jesse Jackson for 1/5th of that, a coach flight, per diem and hotel accommodations for my Black History Program. Some folks will work with you, some won't. Tried getting Mae Jemison for Women's History Month and she wanted $50k, selection of venue, and travel cost (mind you, she lived like one town over from Huntsville). Some folks just do it off the strength and take w/e you were gonna pay them and ask you to donate their speakers fee to one of their preferred charities.

I've seen it in the past as well, and its incredibly unfortunate.

Something that discomfort at PWI really does spur a genuine revolutionary spirit.

I feel you bruh, and every black man should get paid his worth, but he has it at others schools and has the autonomy to get a platform and collect a check, any where at any school, he doesn’t need Harvard, it’s just easy money and a lot of it, and this is me personally, when the shoe was on the other foot to help a small black organization in a program that does not see many blacks, he didn’t attempt to work with us, but now he wants the general public to put pressure on Harvard so he can keep collecting his 100 plus k a year salary easy
