I give props to Harbaugh....he's smart enough to see that Smith ain't got what it takes to win it all and will never be more than average. 99% of coaches wouldn't have the balls to pull this move off

i actually don't see anything wrong with this. it moves the chains and eats up clock.

but :pacspit: to alex. hopefully the 9ers cut him at the end of the year.

true but any qb would look as ":good" as alex did with all those safe plays, alex smith been in the nfl what 7 years? yet he runs a team like a scared rookie to scared ot make a mistake just little dinks and dunks might as well get blaine gabbert if your going to play that

alex smith is top even a top 20 qb

out of all the starting qbs in teh nfl only blaine gabbert and russel wilson avg less passing yards per game

49ers..Braves..Celtics
 He's not bottom tier. He is easily one of the better backups in the league.

Anyway, I'm obviously pleased with the move because the offense is a lot more dynamic with Kaep out there but when/if Kaep goes through some tough times the bytchass media is going to question and second guess the move..

Ehh, I trust Harbaugh but can't say i`m a big fan of the decision.

6 games left to go in the season, teams will get a good look at Kaep and if we make the playoffs he might hit a rough patch at the worst time.

Lets hope the kid is the franchise QB he looked like on MMF.

The offense was more dynamic for one game, don't get too far ahead of yourself. Against the Rams the offense didn't look that dynamic at all.

 Already shilling against our starting QB? You can make a gazillion excuses for a 7 year veteran, including awful games he had this season, but you won't do the same for Kaep? Alex has NEVER had a game as good as the one Kaep had MNF against a defense of that caliber.

i been said that the writing was on the wall for this move, just didn't think it would happen this soon.

from the peyton chase, to the front office giving alex a 3 year deal with only 1 year guaranteed, to harbaugh getting kaepernick PT before the bears game, it was obvious that alex was quarterbacking on borrowed time. i still think that starting kaep right now is a high risk/high reward move but it's a move i'd be willing to make.

It was one game.

I`m all for Kaep, I loved what he did on MNF, but lets not crown someone over one game.

I believe Harbaugh knows more than me or anyone else on this board, so i`ll trust his judgement.

I think the risk is ridiculously high, but it's for the better of the team of the future. It's obvious now Harbaugh never saw Alex as the future, so the future starts now.

If Kaep struggles though and we go one and done in the playoffs, he's gonna have egg on his face.

welp...

Smith says Kaepernick will get first-team reps, but starting job still open | ProFootballTalk

Well, well, well. It looks like we’ve got a little ESPN-on-SI crime.

In response to a report from Jim Trotter of SI.com that 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been told that Colin Kaepernick will start Sunday at New Orleans regarding of Smith’s health, ESPN producer Seth Markman has posted via Twitter that Smith has informed ESPN’s Trent Dilfer that the veteran quarterback has been told only that Kaepernick will get the first-team practice reps this week.

Per Dilfer (via Markman), Smith says that he still has a chance to start based on how he and Kaepernick perform in practice.

Dilfer and Smith were teammates for two years in San Francisco, from 2006 through 2007.

So it’s possible a decision hasn’t been made. And the situation already is taking on a life of its own, which won’t make it any easier for coach Jim Harbaugh to make a decision (if a decision hasn’t been made) and to get his team to support it without doubt or question or second-guessing.
