When you make a thread such as this, of course, people are going to come in being puzzled and perhaps even offended because this is not something that’s general, but quite specific and shouldn’t be used to critique Americans. But go on, I’m sure you wanted the engagement.Touche.
But that being the case, this thread really shouldn't be 9 pages long.
The holocaust is general knowledge. Why would any non jew know that?
How many people know that Stalin killed 6 million of his own people, or about Pol Pot killed 25% of the then Cambodian population? How about how China's "Great Leap Forward" is estimated in killing 30 million people. Do you know about any of the re-education camps in any of those circumstances?
There are also very recent Holocausts and Holocausts happening now. Example, how many Americans know about the camps Israel uses to hold Palastinians in place?
Israel set up facilities dedicated to torturing Palestinians: Rights group
So why would there be any expectation that Americans know about Holocaust concentration camps, when most of us do not even know about the Holocausts happening right now. Why do they feel they are so special?
My man the thread is not about the event, its about names of the camps, outside of Auswicth(sp) 99% of the people don't know any other name. The holocaust is general knowledge.
I also know where Chernobyl is. I'm not Ukranian.
Read a book.
I mean at this point I'm not gonna repeat my reasons for why I think this is common knowledge, but I've been willing to let this thread die for a few hours now.My man the thread is not about the event, its about names of the camps, outside of Auswicth(sp) 99% of the people don't know any other name.
Jews have their own schools, afrer schools, summer camps etc where they learn that shyt, not to mention familly members thay were victims so they probably know the camp great grandma was in.
The truth is that people only seek to have knowledge of the things they care about, picking and choosing which information is important to them to keep in their memory.
Outside of racists, Neo-Nazis, and Hitler sympathizers, I would assume that the average American doesn't care about Nazi Germany that much to have immediate knowledge of concentration camps and let alone the people running the camps, notable officers of Hitler's army personnel, and notable medical/research staff members personnel during his reign.
In all fairness I think the Twin Towers were known worldwide even before 9/11, they was featured in many movies, various musicians filmed music videos on the roof, etc.Go overseas and to other countries and see if they can name what buildings were hit by the planes on 9/11.
Fair enough, here's another example. How many Americans or people around the world know the name of one ship that was bombed during Pearl Harbor? In all fairness I think the Twin Towers were known worldwide even before 9/11, they was featured in many movies, various musicians filmed music videos on the roof, etc.
Now the Pentagon? Yeah I doubt most people overseas know what the Pentagon is
I know where I'm from not dumb diddy dumb. The cost of the holocaust Im talkin bout the one still going on
Ahh, so if this is true, that is why he thinks he is too intelligent to explain himself on TheColi.I think he’s latino.
I was about to ask the same question except ask specifically if you were Jewish. If your thread was about X% of Americans not knowing about concentration camps at all or which countries made up the Acis or something else high level about WW2 then I’d be shocked and disappointed but specific concentration camp names is just weird.OP is a guy who has a lot of interests all over the world.
You don't need to be any race or color or nationality or ethnicity to be curious of history.
The same coli posters who don't give a shyt about the holocaust because they aren't jewish are the same posters who get mad at other races who might not care about black history.
Ignorance is bad no matter where it's directed.
I'm not Jewish.I was about to ask the same question except ask specifically if you were Jewish. Fixed that for you, because multiple ships were bombed and sunked during the attack on Pearl Harbor.Fair enough, here's another example. How many Americans or people around the world know the name of one ship that was bombed during Pearl Harbor?
