I agree, but not know the names of concentration camps is pretty nitpicky

I could see if mfs was on some denial shyt or conspiracy talk but it's bigger fish to fry

Even if no one thought of at least auschwitz, I'm sure they still understand what the holocaust was and broader impact it has

Perhaps but I debate smart white people offline all the time and I won't let them get a leg up on me if I can avoid it.

I don't see how knowing more concentration camp names can help strengthen any point regarding the holocaust all that much

For a formal research paper, yeah but for the common man, the main thing is understanding the more essential things

Which is pretty much what to expect given that the education system is a summary and standardization of tons information until you get to college and choose specific areas of study

It's the geography thing all over again. Knowing capital names and country locations isn't about intelligence. It just shows you put the time in to memorize it all. Which is cool in of itself but many people try to use it as a gotcha and make assumptions about a whole group of people

We live in age where all the known info in the world is readily available through the internet. It really ain't much of a benefit to memorize every little thing when someone else can easily recall the same info even faster with a simple search

And if you feel that makes it too easy, at least it shows the person has enough interest in the subject to search it out on their own

I took the train to Sachsenhausen when I was in Berlin years ago. It was an experience I’ll always remember, particularly the execution trench. The smell coming from the wooden trench walls is a smell I’ll never forget.

But can you name the model name of the specific reactor responsible for the accident without Google or using acronyms :troll:
Yeah.
Because I watched the Chernobyl HBO series and two documentaries on it.

It was an RBMK reactor.
:youngsabo:

Now do you believe that I knew that without googling? No. You don't believe me.

But that's okay.

Most Americans are taught about the holocaust and what concentration camps are but ymwe weren't being taught specifically of each one. The idea was the takeaway, not the specifics. It's unreasonable to expect an American to independently research concentration camps and be able to recall specific details about them like their names. Not sure where you're going with this. That's like if you asked a non-American what state the KKK originated in. Nobody remembers details like that unless you have proximity to the issue at hand or have a keen interest in the subject.

A better gauge of world knowledge would be having awareness of the many holocaust and genocides that have taken place a d are currently taking place. This is not a phenomenon that has passed into antiquity in the history books. It has happened since and still happening around the world to this day.
