Neither of them has a HER like push

But they are as decorated, if not more decorated. Have you ever heard a song by Ledisi? Have you really seen anyone or heard anyone discuss Ledisi's music? Personally, I never heard of Ledisi until she was on Michael Baisden.

I'm nearly done with the album...

Its...Ok, and I'm a huge HER fan.

Too all over the place and trying to cater to too many audiences.
None of the rappers on here were needed.
Could have been cut to around 14-15 Tracks max.
Weakest release so far for bae.

HER is a very diverse artist and you can tell either the label or herself wants to showcase that but I hope future albums have a more focused sound.

Janelle Monae did have a blatant label push but it still doesn’t compare to H.E.R.

H.E.R. Mainstream success is manufactured tho

no one is denying her talent but she’s a niche artist being pushed onto the mainstream

it’s crazy that this album has a sticky. No other R&B albums get sticky’s on this site

how? in another r&b female thread, i put up spotify monthly active listener #'s for all the contemporary r&b chicks, only one doing more numbers was SZA - people are listening to her. and other r&b projects have had stickies, brent fiayaz, beyonce and sza did off top...and drake projects

HER - 16M (this was before the album drop)
Kehlani - 15M
Jorja Smith - 11M
Summer Walker - 10M
Jhene Aiko - 10M
Ella Mai - 7M
Ari Lennox - 4M
Jazmine Sullivan - 3.8M

HER music doesn’t resonate like Summer, Ella or SZA yet she has had a more decorated career than all three of them combined

don't use SZA, she has awards, and booked the hell outta festivals and shows....and you're wrong, like i said, the numbers, albeit one platform, show she's ahead of her peers other than sza who leads the pack

SZA is no where close to HER as far as awards go. No one is.

SZA has 20 wins amongst numerous nominations List of awards and nominations received by SZA - Wikipedia
HER has 14 wins amongst numerous noms (9 grammy noms) H.E.R. - Wikipedia

HER makes the equivalent of Oscar Bait music, "woke" and "artistic" (i.e. soul/jazz-influenced, instrumentation) are bait songs for the Grammy's, so yea, she has more Grammy wins, but SZA has the awards that deal more with popularity/charts/airplay

Like I said, the SZA-HER debate aint the hill to die on because SZA is doing #'s across the board, HER isn't being artificially pushed ahead of SZA

Yep my exact thoughts after listening to the album today. Like others said the rappers weren't needed on this.

As long as she's writing then that's good. She should be fully reliable on her own skills though. That's how a complete artist develops.

I mean MJ only wrote 4 songs on Thriller...and they had looked at hundreds of songs from writers as well. (His next album BAD yes he stepped up to majority songwriting duties)

But I agree hopefully as she progresses she writes more of her material.
