The reign is a complete bore at this point. A lot of folks have been noticing that his world title reign isn't hitting the same as the IC title reign and folks have been blaming the quality of his opponents/the lack of prestige for the world title or the fact that the IC title is the "workhorse" championship"...but I think his act has just gotten stale.

Dude held the IC title for over a year, lost it in April, won the world heavyweight title just four months later with little-to-no resistance (I don't think he lost a single match between his loss to Sami and Summerslam) and now he's basically doing the same shyt for the past three months that he was doing with the IC title for over a year. He's the same character cutting the same promos and people are wondering why his segments aren't getting the same responses that they were last year? :dahell:

He's been a champion for most of his time on the main roster, it's time to try something different. Put him in some other feuds that don't revolve around the title, give him a best-of-7 series with Bronson Reed or Dragon Lee, have him feud with Ludwig, have him tag with Ludwig, just keep him away from a singles title atp.

Roman lost his championship at the same event Gunther did, been back for 5 months and hasn't even INDICATED that he's going for a title yet. He isn't cutting the same promos that he was when he was world champ. That's how you keep a character fresh.

World titles are inherently defended less often than mid card titles. He is a bigger deal because of the rarity, just like Cody.

He hasn't been in a feud in a while. He was a bit of a third in the priest / finn feud that wasn't about him. He needs a worthy feud, and the Randy Orton feud was just that...you must have forgotten that shyt because the crowd was hot for that dude and match. Jey will have the same result.

In short, he shouldn't drop the belt because anyone would have cooled the way they've booked the belt right now. Him vs Jey will be solid.

When all the top faces are occupied and intertwined into one storyline, you get underwhelming title reigns like Gunther. I think people are getting weary of these long, predictable title reigns. Gunther was great as a mid card champion, but doesn't have much to work with as a World Champ.

Fans don't want to see top faces like Punk, Seth, Sami, Punk and Jey job out to Gunther. I don't think there is an appetite to run back Gunther/Priest anytime soon. Rey Mysterio would be a good feud, but would anyone truly believe that Rey would get a title reign at the tail end of his career. Maybe a Cena feud, but again I don't think fans want to see Cena lose at this point. Roman doesn't need a title at this point in his career.

Just overall bad timing for his reign IMO

It was a PLE in Germany, that's damn near a home game for him and he made his name in WXW, ofc he's gonna get good reactions there. Plus foreign events always make for hotter feuds because the fans are more invested due to the rarity. You can tell the same energy isn't there for the Jay feud.

You think he feels like a bigger deal now than when he was IC champion?

GUNTHER established in a promo vs. Cody Rhodes that he didn't see the point of being constantly featured and having to be everywhere like Cody did.

Either way, it won't matter because once he gets in a match, we'll fear for his opponent's life as we always do just because that man caves in chests with the palm of his hand.

But really, the main thing is what @Dipsey Doo said. For the most part, the World Championship division is too busy feuding amongst itself to where GUNTHER literally came out this past Monday, mocked that division for fighting over shyt that didn't matter and told them that the only thing worth fighting for is on his shoulder.

Whether or not the booking sorts that out is another matter, but at least the character is aware of it. However, GUNTHER's character is generally one who doesn't go around instigating things as it is. He's a problem solver, not a problem starter.

He is less present but he is more of a boss, yes. He went from mid level boss you dread seeing to actual boss the others fight to see. He went from Bald Bull to Mike Tyson in Punchout

All very good points. Personally I feel like Priest was a much better world champion because there was far less predictability with his reign. Not only was he having solid matches, he could have feasibly lost to every opponent he wrestled. Gunther's matches have been excellent, but his defense have had zero drama or suspense. Zero.

Maybe they should've spaced out his reigns a little more then. The mid-level to actual boss transition has been...off. Cody was chasing the WWE title for two years, Gunther got the world title in four months.

He hasn't had a Face to go up against that wasn't already tied up within another feud. It's like all the faces have been attached to the Bloodline story in some shape or form at some point since he won the title. Like you said even Priest had his own feud to finish off. Even Orton was part of the Cody/KO/Bloodline.
