DBs are taught to knock the ball away
a hail mary situation in NO way is the same as any old pass break up
the odds of returning a INT from a hail mary for points is negligible so the benefit of the pick doesnt exist
LOL @ everyone thinking 2 times out of hundreds of years of football that goign for the pick when your a DEFENSIVE BACK WITH shyt HANDS in the first place is better than swatting
if they had great hands theyd be WRs
but i aint discussing the factors of returning a hail mary.. wtf? jennings wouldn't have tried to return it, he knew it was the last play, that statement is pointless..... im aruging you make the play that is the lesser of two evils., if you are in a definitive position to catch the ball, you make an attempt to catch it, jennings caught it, the benefit of picking that ball (in that situation) is not in the nature of returning it... the benefit is maximising your power on ending the play, you don't do that by swatting the ball.. you leave MORE outside/environmental factors to have a say, than you do by attempting to catch it when you're in the BEST possible position out of all the players on the field..
from my experience, dbs are taught ,,, if you are in a position where you can make a play, you make it.. jennings was in the best possible position to make that catch on the field, and thats what he did..
and that last statement is flat out ignorance, i played corner and receiver the majority of my teenage life; the ability to interpret the play/ player movement, (educated/experienced estimates of a play, instinct, working the patterning of what the receiver tends to do, idiosyncrasies, etc etc), that was harder and more challenging than playing receiver.. and a lot of folk ive talked to said that's why they prefer being db and not a receiver....some of the dbs ive seen have had some of the best hands,... that 'if dbs had great hands, they'd be wrs' is some bullshyt..
