It's an exercise in how to make a movie look good and every technique you need in your arsenal to make something look fantastic and feel like a movie. But from a writing standpoint it's very meh. The characters aren't really defined and even though JD is cool as hell as Dillinger, it's a very cold movie. Contrast that with Collateral, also a Mann film and has all of the technical brilliance but also has the character stuff to boot

Collateral is :blessed:One of my favourites. Visually amazing and that soundtrack is :whew:

It shows how kids in the neighborhood are brought up and raised by the gangsters in the neighborhood and a Priest (De Niro plays the priest) and how the streets and juvenile hall molded these kids. It's really fukked up, these sick prison guards molest the kids. And the kids grow up fukked up and get payback.

Everyone should check Sleepers out. Brad Pitt's in it too and does his thing. Kevin Bacon is a sadistic prison guard.
