fukk you. I don't want to choose between The Godfather II and Goodfellas. :sadcam:

BUT, here some of my suggestions...

Road To Perdition :whew:
A Prophet
Mesrine 1 & 2
Le Haine

I don't think the Mesrine movies are top tier. They are very good and Cassel is fantastic but there is a lack of focus.

no mention of public enemies?:ohhh:

I was just thinking about this. It's an ok flick not a great flick. The character work kinda sucks but from a technical standpoint it's awesome. It's an exercise in how to make a movie look good and every technique you need in your arsenal to make something look fantastic and feel like a movie. But from a writing standpoint it's very meh. The characters aren't really defined and even though JD is cool as hell as Dillinger, it's a very cold movie. Contrast that with Collateral, also a Mann film and has all of the technical brilliance but also has the character stuff to boot

Angels With Dirty Faces is great too: the gangster vs. the priest's influence on the kids, the ending with 2 different interpretations left to the viewer, and Cagney is just badass in that movie. there's a scene where he just laughs for a long time and i doubt it was in the script

It's not a Gangster movie per say. But, SLEEPERS is a killer movie. It shows how kids in the neighborhood are brought up and raised by the gangsters in the neighborhood and a Priest (De Niro plays the priest) and how the streets and juvenile hall molded these kids. It's really fukked up, these sick prison guards molest the kids. And the kids grow up fukked up and get payback.

Everyone should check Sleepers out. Brad Pitt's in it too and does his thing. Kevin Bacon is a sadistic prison guard.

Watch The Roaring Twenties. Saw it once and instantly became one of my favorites:

PUblic Enemies is like a western. Dillinger was dealing with being driven out by technology on both sides of the spectrum: FBI being formed and using better techniques, and the mob having nationwide numbers through the wires. The days of the outlaw gunslinger were over. It's grown on me a lot over the years.

All the movies listed in poll are classics, but nothing is on the scale and scope of the Godfather...coming from someone who read the book too, the Godfather is perfect in every fukking way....Part II is almost as great but doesn't have Brando or Pacino's transformation in part I...brilliant acting
