My cousin just started OTR for a friend/startup. I'm hoping it goes well for him. Sounds like he's making decent money through his first few weeks. :ehh:

Not from the south but if you don't mind working nights you could be a linehaul driver straight out of trucking school if you want to work days you could work for a food company like Pepsi,us foods,Sysco but them niqqas work hard as fukk :hubie:since you don't have any kids going to the gym would be easy if you get a local job

This actually sounds perfect. Out west (LA/Orange County), currently work full-time for a major tech firm while attending school (two year). Getting ready to transfer to a university soon and looking to do local night routes and university by day

Grabbing CDL-A (scheduled a driving school class).

Anything else a breh should do to prepare?

Brehs what's the best truck to buy. Which make and model should we stay away from? What's the engine to go for and which engine should we stay away from?

Frieghtliners are the cheapest.

peterblit/kenworth are the more expensive ones but don’t hear about breakdowns as much.

Macks are pure shyt. Always problems fukk Macks are fukk ton paperweights

Volvo always have problems electrical but not really engine.

Cummins have more power for climbing up hills and acceleration.

Detroit seems to have less issues as what I seen. Less expensive too.

So I was talking with an older cat today about truck driving and he was telling me paying to go to school is basically a waste of money.

Suggested should I just study for the permit, and after I get it pay some place with a qualified CDL driver to certify byou through the driving test portion and receive your license/certificate.

That was the gist of what he said. Anyone familiar with this course of action?

Instead of paying a couple grand and going to some classes for several weeks and getting qualified I can just do this instead?

It's been awhile since I'll talked to dude so I'm a little hazy on the details. But I think I'm explaining what he said more or less accurately.

Care to expound?

:patrice:

What should I watch for?

Unless you like physical labor on top of your workout, LTL jobs should not be on your list.

Don't know how much experience you have, but I'd look for a local warehouse driver job or something going from a plant to a warehouse first. Shuttling jobs are cool. If you have a hazmat endorsement you'll have more options.

What about tanker? Also, is it something you can do as a beginner? I figure those gigs are pretty much all local.
