Why don’t y’all get into dumps? Home every day and get paid very well especially if you own. Plus you rarely have to get out the truck.

Sounds like a good option but I'd hold off on signing up with the company recruiters while you're in training. Are you paying out of pocket?
I'm not sure yet how I'm going to pay. I'm still in the air force on active duty. I'm trying to get my cdl way before I retire. 4 years until I retire. I want to buy my own truck and eventually a trailer.

What schools would yall recommend? I found this one near me

CDL Training & Truck Driving School in Kansas City, MO - Roadmaster

I noticed their site says they're training drivers in automatic trucks. Avoid training in an automatic if possible. Yes, lots of companies are switching their fleets over to them. However, if you train and test in one then it will be a restriction on your license that will limit you to driving automatic trucks ONLY and you'd have to re-test in a manual to get the restriction removed.

I dunno, trucking seems to have been a good hustle until the invention of self driving trucks. :francis: I don't think entering this industry will be a smart move past 2030.

Not this subject again :stopitslime:

Even IF self driving trucks become the norm by 2030 (which would be VERY optimistic on the part of the people pushing them) there's still a need for drivers because self-driving trucks can't do everything. They'd be effective for long distances and that's pretty much it. Let me see a self driving truck pick up an intermodal container from any of these ports :skip:

Truth be told, that's still mad years away. Think about this, companies are not waiting in line to swap out whole fleets ..... who has the bank for that? Even with all types of incentives, discounts, and kick backs. Then there's going to be a demand on techs and mechanics to service these trucks. Then there's still all of the independent owner operators.
There's still going to be drivers to ride along and assist them trucks until the percentage of error is low enough for insurance companies to back off
