Getting a local food service job has not been easy.

Any advice brehs? Do I need endorsements to get the good local jobs that don't require me to unload the truck as well

Breh ..You have 4 years experiance..Most local companies require 1..What's holding you back from Local L.T.L companies like Fedex Freight,SAIA,XPO,UPS Freight,OLD Dominion,etc...Is you not having your endorsements..They won't touch you until you get your Tanker,Haz-mat ,and Doubles and Triple endoserments....Your OTR so you have the time to study for the 3 tests.Just Google CDL practice exams.Without those your're wasting your time...Now you can apply for those Food Service jobs like,,SYSCO,McClane,US-Foods, Gordans Foods, and they will hire you,but those places will work the shyt out of you for that $80,000,..That is why Food Service has a high turnover rate..My opionion the wear and tear on your body ism't worth it..I work in LTL and make the same money and for the most part never touch the freight..LTL you normally have to be with a company for 3 years before you reach top pay...LTL companies are broken up into 2 parts,,You have P/D drivers we deliver and pickup during the day..Than you have Linehaul-drivers they generally work at night and just drop and hook..If driving at night is your thing and they never touch any freight. For the most part they make more than the P/D drivers..

So if I get my endorsement i will be able to get hired without problem? The food service companies aren't hiring be because they don't think I'll be able to do the job coming from otr

Yeah once you get your Tanker, Hazmat, and Doubles/Triples you set. It's because with LTL and Line Haul, they want you to be able to haul anything that they got a contract for

I had a LTL job hauling paint. One of the easiest jobs ever. You need a tanker and hazmat for that cause paint can be toxic. But you never touch the freight and just back into docks. shyt was simple

As long as your MVR is decent, and you have all 3 endorsements..In LTL you should have no problem..Like I said LTL is broken up into 2 parts..Local P/D drivers and Linehaul drivers..Linehaul drivers are basically OTR ,but they leave from the terminal ,and come back home every -night...So the runs aren't that long..Alot of LTL companies won't start hiring again until the new year. When freight loads generally pick-up..Fill out the online applications, and if they don't call each terminal has a Terminal Manager..Go up there and introduce yourself...I don't know why your having issues with food service..In Atlanta their always hiring ,because of the high turnover rate, but sometimes they may shy away from OTR drivers beacause holding a steering wheel all day is alot different from unloading 1000 cases every day..Just keep trying

Depends on the type of LTL. If you hauling stuff that needs be in stores 24/7 it could be 15 stops a day. But they are more in and out and lesser wait time

If you do manufacturing products at plants it would be alot of short haul shuttle driving. That's like 20+ stops a day but it's literally like 5 miles away from your destination so it doesn't seem as bad

The speciality stuff like paint would be like 3 stops a day max

Or you can deliver gasoline or propane and it's 3 stops max

Not talking shyt but paying dues is a part of life. if you have to do some physical work (unloading) in the meanwhile to make money etc, do that shyt while you're still young. Again don't take this the wrong way, but take this advice from some1 who probably has a little more life/professional experience. A lot of ppl nowadays want the perfect gig immediately but life rarely works out like that. If there are open positions right now that might require you to unload etc but pays well, I would recommend going there now if for no reason other than at least you'll be growing a network/experience in a different part of the trucking industry (something you'll never lose even if you move on after 6 months). Then maybe down the line you get a truck and just hire someone yourself to do that type of work.

It’s always good to have your HZendorsements. Although we aren’t supposed to send contract carriers with HZ loaded units sometimes we do... and it’s situations they come off the rail contacted to contract carriers. If the driver we have to pop the seal to get the Haz off taking more time to get the freight to the destination causing possible fails.

Oh shyt. Wrong endorsements... nevermind the above.

fukk it. I’m going to Schneider choice in about 2 months. I already spoke with a recruiter and all.

Will lease a truck with Schneider finance. Good thing about that is if I ever leave Schneider, I can take the truck with me as long as I make the payments.

Going with Schneider over a 90% company due to rates being very low and sni has contract freight.

As to why now instead of waiting. I started realizing how shytty this current company lease deal is. Running hard for 2800-3000 miles, making 1800. Less than a company driver when you factor in taxes you have to pay while taking a bigger risk.

Then looking at the contract. You pay for all the fuel, which is understandable. But the company only gives the owner operator a .10 discount at loves/ta/pj. Any other discount over that goes to the carrier as “administrative fees/markup”. I read that and was like
:ohhh::mjcry:

Some of these carriers get .2-.5+ fuel discounts. I’m pretty sure Roehl gets a pretty decent discount past .1. Especially with loves. Since they have a program that gives all Roehl drivers free showers.

I guarantee you that they make hundreds of thousands, if not millions a year off fuel that owner operators pay for.
How is the freight rates going in and out of Texas?

Can someone explain per diem to me. I was with Schneider and they automatically put you in their per diem payroll

Does this stop you from getting a refund?

I heard that company drivers can't claim per diem as a deduction anymore
