How did yall get this to stick to your brain?? A young brother over hear bout ready 2 kick it and toss this book aside

Do you have to take the written test? Like I mentioned earlier, use those apps. If it's for pretrip, I got a cheat sheet that one of my classmates came up with for that. I'll have to take pics of it though

How much money is to be made in this. I was thinking about getting my cdl but I can't be 50k or less out here. I keep hearing shyt like you can make a couple stacks a week if you own your own truck. Any truth to this ?

Kinda. Cuz yes you'll be making good money a week, but remember you own your own truck. You'll be replacing tires a lot which can get expensive, regular truck maintenance, insurance, etc. So you'll be making money, but also spending money.. but you'll be making a lot more than you're spending.

You actually believe this is what's funny :mjlol:

Soon as these "robotic trucks" start causing accidents and killing people, that shyt gonna end quick.

Yes, because human truck drivers don't cause any accidents. I'll trust a computer with passive/active sensors to drive safely over the road before a guy that's been driving for 13 hours straight.

And while I understand the difficulties of having an autonomous vehicle operating in the city etc - at the end of the day it's an issue of computing power and software. All of the technology is available - it's not being implemented bc we haven't yet figured out how to manage the inevitable social/political/economic fallout.

I've spoken with a lot of guys over the years and most of them have good stories and make enough to buy 2 homes, multiple cars, trucks, and start their own businesses. The ones that don't 9 outta 10 times drove less than a year and ended up quitting cuz they missed their families so much. But even they were making decent money... it's definitely not a job for ppl with wives and kids. Ive never gone over the road but I've driven locally and would make $300+ for the day.

There are literally so many hard turns and tight spots a computer will not be able to handle. There will be situations where your truck won't make the turn and you gotta back out the entire block. Situations where you gotta hit the curb or graze a sign. Situations where you have to get out and shovel ice or dirt under your wheel to get traction cuz your truck got stuck. Situations where it's dark and there's a big pothole up ahead you gotta avoid quickly or you'll mess up the freight in the back. I can keep going.

Apparently these computerized trucks will still have someone behind the wheel. I still don't get how they're going to pay those people and what type of person would take that job, but :yeshrug:

I understand all that, but you need to think about it in different terms.

Situations = a random collection of 1s and 0s. The computer is able to assess what is going on much faster than any human. You can "teach" a computer that it's ok to go over a curb, so long as the sensors do not detect anything or anyone at that specific location. The second something even approaches that space, the truck will stop. And again all of this is currently in use already.

Even with road conditions - I'm sure they already have sensors that are able to scan the oncoming road for any dangerous objects. And potholes are unavoidable - I highly doubt they will program them to avoid holes as you're liable to cause more trouble by swerving. They would rather take the chance of damaging freight that is insured than killing someone.

I think you're right in that in the beginning they will still have passengers. My understanding is that you may see a convoy of 5 or 6 semi autonomous trucks with one human in the lead vehicle. He/she is able to monitor everything that is going on with all of the trucks in the convoy. If an issue arises that requires human intervention that option will be there.

Piece of advice for the drivers in here. If you're independent and you're eligible (minority or woman) - DEFINITELY get Minority Business (MBE) certified. All large companies and all government agencies have supplier diversity requirements. It's a good way to get your foot in the door with larger customers no matter what industry/sector (OTR, dump, flatbed, construction related etc).
