I think both Dion and James Johnson would have been gone and Olynylk's and J-Rich's deals wouldnt have hapenned had we signed Hayward. But honestly i wasnt really sold on Hayward, myself. He's no franchise player IMO. At least i havent seen enough of him to see that in him. He's a very good #2 option on a championship team. For some reason i get an impression of Minnesota's version of Kevin Love from him.
JJ was part of the recruiting pitch and shares the same agent as Hayward. They likely had 2 figures for him going into FA, one if Hayward signs and one (more $$) if he didnt. We have an ensemble cast, an all-star player along with Dragic, Whiteside and role players is a pretty good team. As much as I like Dion he aint an all-star.

Can't tank when everybody just got paid. Haven't watched too many games so I can't offer real criticism, but just saw we haven't won vs a team over .500 yet

nah I ain't really tankwave (yet) :whoa:
we need to turn it around though. I'll give them ~30 games but right now we are sloppy af and look like complete dog shyt on offense with all these turnovers :snoop:

I forgot who posted the stat, but last year opposing players were shooting low FG % while guarded by J Rich. :ld:

@Primetime21
As far as AAV(average annual value), the salaries for these recently signed players aren't bad, it's just the years they're signed for.

With the risk of injuries and teams hesitant to take on long term contracts via trade, its gon be hard to get trade value out of most of these guys sans Dragic and Whiteside. I think Dion may be a trade asset, but we gotta see how he progresses after his injury.

It's not all doom and gloom, because the Heat are good at player development, and we get full control of our picks 3 or so years from now. Just gotta ride out these scrappy 40+ win seasons for a year or so, before we can look to build a contender.

J Rich is elite defensively and can shoot 3's :manny:

He's just playing out of position
JRich has always hustled on D and is a fine defender but that contract was given to him in anticipation that he'd blow up.

We've seen him play well his first 2 years and know he has that dog in him but this slump he's been on to start the season has been hard to watch. I've been big on JRich ever since he got drafted tho I've always hoped he'd be a PG at this level. But we gave him that contract thinking he'd continue to grow but seems like he's struggling bad.

But the effort is still there. Shots just aren't dropping plus I feel this offense doesn't fit him. He should be free to take it to the basket more. I feel our entire offense is Dragic and Dion drive a d others stand around the 3 pt line to shoot it as soon as they catch it. I really wish we'd take a triangle offense approach but Hassan is too much if a black hole for it

J. Rich is not a 3 in any era of the NBA. You can't take these young guys and play them out of position consistently. At the very least, he can be a 3 and D shooting guard.

The way they've stunted Winslow's growth is a travesty. That's why I thought we should shed salary and develop the young talent instead of throwing money to bums. That way we can see what we've got and have enough wiggle room to tank if it goes bad. Now we're pretty much a fringe .500 treadmill team unless someone is dumb enough to take these bad deals. Whiteside will probably have to get moved in order for that to happen

Next year's draft is better. :hubie:
RJ; Bol Bol, Reddish, and Zion all have franchise to perineal All Star talent :hubie:

Even #BlowItUpGang can agree that it's best for the squad, that we lose our pick this year to have one in '19. :hubie:
At the current pace we're 4 spots away from keeping our own pick, so I would disagree. In theory, keeping a top 5 pick in '18 >> giving Phoenix #10 or 11 in '18, and having our own selection in '19. I don't advocate tanking but if we project to give the Suns a lotto pick we're better off doing what we can to keep it.

It definitely hurts watching one of our games and then watching the Warriors/Spurs/Celtics play. Our defense can be fun but we struggle on offense.
It has been this way for almost a decade since Spo became a head coach. The Heat culture always ride on the back of its defense but never develop a great offensive system that works for everyone.

FIXED

How funny mofos have forgotten all them 69 - 64 scores all throughout the Zo/Hardaway/ Mashburn era :smh:
Some of your stay inventing blaming Spo as if he introduced some of these things we now see here when they had been around since Don Riley took over.

Hell there were times when the team wouldn't even score 60 fukking points. I remember a Sunday game vs the Knicks where we only scored 54 points on national TV and I'm certain it didnt only happen once

Only way I see Winslow developing is by trading Dragic and making him our official point-forward where he does the bulk of the ball handling because that's what he does best on offense IMO. His shooting doesn't fit the "stand around the 3pt line and wait for the ball" game he's been stuck in during his stay.

J-Rich to me should have been developed to be Dragic's backup at PG. I guess TJ's presence made them shift him to SG and now to SF but he has no business playing SF as frail as he is. He hustles but he's out of position.

And as I mentioned earlier I would love for Spo to implement some aspects of the TRIANGLE OFFENSE into this squad. We have the personnel to run some sets like that except the focal point of the triangle, Whiteside, will have to learn to be a better passer. But I think with him and Olynyk on the floor together it can work

I think you guys know I've wanted to trade dragic for the last 2 years so I won't go there..

J. Rich doesn't have the ball handling or decision making traits of a staring point guard. Imo, he is a pure SG who can guard both guard spots at a high level.

Whiteside is what he is at this point. I think we can win with him but building around him was/is a bad decision. I'd get good players first and then worry about the fit later
