We could at least try to involve Hassan in the offense and slow things down.
Case in point Whiteside had a small on him and instead of going to him we threw a cross court pass

We have seen countless times even when Whiteside is calling asking for the ball we never give it to him anyway. And if we do give it to him it’s never in a position where he can go up and just make a quick decision and make a play. It’s always in a situation where he has to put the ball down to gather himself which always gets a big men in trouble.

IT DOES NOT WORK. Whiteside is not a guy that works well in a slowed down offense. He's a one-note player. He's not a good passer, decision maker, or a great post up talent. He's an instinct-fueled big men. He's already made up his mind of what his move is before he does it which is why he sometimes looks REALLY smooth when it goes well but really ugly when it doesn't.

He's not strong enough to consistently establish position and keep it, even against smaller defenders. I wouldn't be surprised if Winslow could guard him in the post.

This isn't just a Spo hates Whiteside. Whiteside has FUNDAMENTAL problems that cause his overall offensive game to suffer. He has a nice push shot in the paint, a decent jumper, and he can dunk if in the restricted area but his overall post game is lacking.

He gets his points by running the floor, cutting with maximum effort, and offensive rebounding.

I’m aware of the holes in his game. The point is that big men tend to disengage when they get the ball so little. Their overall activity declines when they get the ball this little. If you’re gonna play the guy, you gotta run plays and keep him involved or just not play him at all. When he’s in, the other teams don’t even bother guarding him since he isn’t getting the ball anywhere. They don’t have to try dumping it to him like he’s Hakeem or Shaq, but at least involve him in some pick and roll if you’re going to run so much of it.

Because he can't handle double teams in the slightest and his vision isn't great. He also doesn't establish position and sees himself getting pushed around on the low block. Dude doesn't set screens, get a small guy on him, and then fight to establish position.

So it takes 5-7 seconds to even get him on the block, another 3-4 seconds for him to father himself and space the floor, and this isn't counting any time to bring the ball down. Then the second the double comes, it's a turnover or forced shot.

I see guys like Steven Adams, far less talented, but they understand that the battle of the big men is in fighting for your spot and holding it. Whiteside DOES NOT DO THAT consistently. He just doesn't.

We got too many people making too much money without being elite. I won't overreact, nikkas played hard but damn I want a star on this squad.
at the end of the day philly has 2 players who are better than anyone on the heat's roster at this point. that's quite the gap in talent discrepancy to overcome. now i know how other teams felt when we had wade and lebron surrounded by lethal shooters.

needless to say game 4 is a must-win...tie the series up at 2 and then make it a best of 3 from there

Considering all this I would really like to know what the coaching staff is coaching him up to do. Didn’t they try to set up some development program with him a few offseasons ago?

Ive pretty much accepted the fact that they aren't going to call post ups for Whiteside. I don't know how he's not scoring off of the pnr or mid-range jumper.

I think both sides are ready to split ways. That contract is gonna be hard to move.:francis:

Dude barely sets hard screens though. And people have figured out his PnR skill set. A third player o drops down and stays between the basket because they know Whiteside isn't gonna pass it to the corner or cutter with enough fluidity. They just need to use their length to contest the pass and force Whiteside to make a decision outside of smash the lob and this is when that happens. You know why Bam catches alleys and is a lob threat? Because he cuts hard and does it CONSISTENTLY while setting hard fukking screens.

Shoot fukking threes, apparently.

This was a team loss quite a few players had dumb TO's but I can't take another possession of Whiteside finally getting the ball and he throws up that little weak hook and he gets ripped. Should Whiteside get some more looks? Yeah but you can't keep making excuses for dude saying "he needs the ball in the right position" if he needs all that then that won't cut it

You’d think they’d find people to coach him up to help improve his passing and a few post moves :francis:. What was the point of paying him in the first place if they don’t seem to make further developing his game the top priority? Everyone else on the team has a ceiling as a role player basically so the alternative to trying to maximize his talents is to try shedding all salary and tank sixers style.

This is a series where we would absolutely see healthy Dion's true value. Even with his flaws, his explosiveness and first step would allow him to abuse guys like Bellinelli and Reddikk on defense plus he's probably the third best Drive/kick passer on the team.
