Got our Google fiber installed today. very quick very simple. Honestly the speed isn't that noticeably different when when web surfing. I am currently downloading a 1.5 gig program and its downloading a lot faster than I anticipated. Seems like it will take 10 mins to download the file.
Google Fiber should have downloaded that in under a minute. really within seconds.

Nope, 10mins. Like I said, it was faster, but you know that KC is basically the guinea pig for all of this. I'm sure other areas will get the full, real speed numbers.

then you aren't getting your full speed. i can download 1.5 GBs in 5 minutes on a 30 mbps connection and you with Google Fiber took twice as long as me on a 1024 mbps connection?

Started reading the fine print and basically what they are saying is that it depends on how many tvs you have and how many computers you have. All of which share the amount of data. Like I said, I'm sure other places in the area will get full speed, I done a speed test and right now, I'm only getting half of the 1gig speed.

But the richer neighborhoods, Like Crown Center in KCMO and the Legends in KCK and Olathe and Johnson Co. will probably benefit from the full speed. And we bought the complete $120 package.

man eff all that. you're basically getting 15 mbps speeds (if it took you 10 minutes to download 1.5 gbs) on what's supposed to be a 1024 mbps connection. they're jerking you.

I believe you're right, it tested at 580 mbps, which is still only half of the advertised gig. But there may be some stuff I can do on my end with my laptop that might speed things up. I'm using Vuse for my torrents.

:pacspit: @ you faggits

Back in my day it took more than 10 minutes to download 1.5mb

This ain't back in the day.

If I go to download a 1GB file and the estimated time goes over 15 minutes, I'm cancelling it and finding a new link.

Times have changed

Testing your speed on a torrent? :childplease:

like someone said, I don't have my torrent preferences set up correctly. I called google fiber support and they said I need to recheck the speeds in 2 days. But I need to turn off the tv's. But he admitted that no one is really going to get 1000mbps. The best someone can hope for is 800-900 max.

I don't know what else I can test the download speed on. Rapidshare maybe?
