You ain't making any sense, at all. You're comparing album sales from two years where, outside of a few acts, there's been a significant drop off in sales between the years.

Fred.

all I am saying I dont think 242k signifies rap's next big star....particularly one backed by Dre, on a major with enormous hype. you think otherwise.

You realize Em debuted with 280k in 1999 right? Kendrick doesn't even have a monster hit like "My Name Is", but he's putting up numbers.

you lost me there. I dont follow. Or maybe I am not keen to your arithmatic. 441k is more of a success than 242k in any day and time. :comeon:

does this not substantiate that hip hop is not as vibrant today? you cant manufacture to have 2 artists sell that well in one week, was it hype? of course...but you have to have at least one star who is going to demand a certain amount regardless.....lets say like an Oscar De La Hoya, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, etc....this is how promotion works.

You have to have something to promote. You cant promote 2 fighters that nobody knows about and generate substantial PPV numbers. So put Kendrick against Mill then if that will help....yeah...they still wouldnt sell as much as Kanye did by himself.....in TWO weeks. Not dissing Kendrick, he is a good artist. Next big star....:ehh:

in 2004, people went out and bought CD's especially in hip hop... in 2012, we all got the download links for any album that comes out....we buying just cause we want to support artists now.

2012≠2007 by any means.

you can't even compare sports to hip hop either, cause CD sales≠ PPV buys

it's like you've been in jail or frozen for the last 5 years and don't understand how todays world works.

Breh, in the year 2012, a new hip hop artist selling over 200k is rare.
That would be like going gold first week in the year Kanye and 50 sold that much.

And Kanye and 50 were much bigger stars back then, Kendrick is fairly new

You starting to sound like a hater:snoop:

This nikka acts like nikkas don't download 99% of music they like,

Maybe 1 outta every 50 people that has the album actually bought the album legally:rudy:

maybe I have, but I am not a hater. maybe yall are just stans. I dont see how saying selling LESS is better just because it 2012...or HIP HIP is in a better position now than it was back then? Just read the posts on this thread, thats exactly what you are saying when you say 200k is better than 400k or selling 200k is like selling 400k, no...its not.

where the hell yall been? you got DRM, later leaks and tighter security now against bootlegging? In 2004 I was getting albums 2 months before they dropped and P2P was rampant back then too. I dont think bootlegging has hurt that much more than yall claim it to. Plus digital is much more prominent now than then...they do measure that as well you know.

You are trying to rationalize something that defies logic. With no Dre and no hype...how many does the next big thing sell? Maybe 50k in a week? If lucky.

Thats good news. I don't care about all that north vs west vs south shyt. If the music is good after I listen to it on download (kendrick & nas), then I'll go out and support the artist.

The nikka created his own hype, saying dre was the reason he sold so much is like saying jay z was the reason j cole sold a lot, these nikkas was on their grind for a few years, they did it them selves. What happen to bishop Lamont and all the other nikkas with the dre co sign? Dre had nothing to do with od, or section 80, he doesn't even have a single beat on this album

And nobody is saying 400k<<200k, we are simply stating that selling. 200k is the equivalent of selling 400k 5 years ago.

Breh, big biz the god got the links before albums drop and everybody on this board eats off them, anyone else it's as easy as googling the album name followed by send space or any other hosting site, you telling me 99% of nikkas don't download shyt? Yeah, it's gotten a bit harder to download, but shyts still so easy children are doing it. I don't care if it take all the way up to the week before the album releases to leak, nikkas still download it. Why you think sales are so low but hip hops never been more popular?

you clearly have been out of touch with the real world for a number of years.

the world you knew, doesn't exist now...and hasn't in quite some time

DRM:russ:

tighter security against bootlegging :russ::russ::russ::russ::russ:

we don't need to buy anything these days, it's all on the net for free...and we dont even have to be at a computer to acquire any of it.

no disrespect to Kendrick or any of his fans, but he is a product of a hype machine. seriously...he was on mag covers billed as "Rap's Next Big Star". 242k is respectable no doubt but Graduation sold almost a mil and Curtis sold almost 700k in the same week. If this is all hip hop's next big star is capable of then....:manny:

This further substantiates that Hip Hop is on life support. Its not just Hip Hop, it happens in sports too. Stars are rarely born anymore, rather manufactured. Not a Kendrick hater, his album is ok...just giving my perspective. :yeshrug:
:what:

even ignoring the fact that you've been in hiding or something since 2007, how can you compare the sales of 'Ye & 50's 3rd albums to Kendricks first mainstream exposure? Kanye & 50 are THE BIGGEST artists in Hip Hop if not music in general in the last 10 years and they already had their established fan base in 2007.

Music Industry Sees Digital Sales Slowing Along With CDs - Peter Kafka - Media - AllThingsD

The music industry is down 64% from it's peak. That's including digital sales too. And it's been dropping every year since '02. If you can't see how selling 200k today is similar to selling 400k a few years ago, then you're retarded.

You come into a thread, making no fukking sense at all, and have the audacity to claim anyone that disagrees with you is a stan. Stop talking.

Fred.
