Uhh, who else besides backpack fans listen to Tech N9ne? I attribute him to the backpack movement regardless of when he came out, Kanye & Pharrell are backpackers too:beli:

smh @ you calling Tech n9ne a backpacker.

ive been listening to Tech N9ne for DECADES and he is not and does not appeal to backpackers.

Graduation on the other hand, those sales are incredible and will probably never be topped again in hiphop music. He almost did a mill first week in 2007, that's amazing.

uhh, didn't C3 in 08 do bigger opening week numbers than Graduation?

OMG...can't u nikkas be happy for the nikka?

...U talking Warren G numbers breh..which was in the in the fukking 90's! When there was NO internet, and nikkas weren't bootlegging...

Goddamn...all u nikkas arguing about numbers are the SAME nikkas not buying the damn albums and then complain about why hip-hop don't sell...:smh:

:childplease:

I'm not arguing about numbers, you have misunderstood my point. 1st week sales these days are pretty high considering the total amount of record sold.

I've never complained about album sales figures in my life.

You do know first week sales are included in total sales, right? :snoop:

Fred.

Are you stupid? I'm saying first week hip-hop sales in '12 account for a larger % of total sales than in the past. First week sales are an over-rated metric in deciding whether an album has done well commercially.

maybe I have, but I am not a hater. maybe yall are just stans. I dont see how saying selling LESS is better just because it 2012...or HIP HIP is in a better position now than it was back then? Just read the posts on this thread, thats exactly what you are saying when you say 200k is better than 400k or selling 200k is like selling 400k, no...its not.

where the hell yall been? you got DRM, later leaks and tighter security now against bootlegging? In 2004 I was getting albums 2 months before they dropped and P2P was rampant back then too. I dont think bootlegging has hurt that much more than yall claim it to. Plus digital is much more prominent now than then...they do measure that as well you know.

You are trying to rationalize something that defies logic. With no Dre and no hype...how many does the next big thing sell? Maybe 50k in a week? If lucky.

Are you stupid? The sole reason first week sales account for a larger number than in the past is because albums are selling less over a shorter period. Did I seriously just have to explain that to you?

And first week sales for rap albums is still a fairly accurate gauge for how an album will perform, because in 2012 around 50% of an album's entire amount sold will generally happen in the first week. Other genres, not so much. That's how you have Lady Gaga selling 20k or some shyt first week but still going 4x plat. A rap album doing 20k would never hit gold.

You're basically agreeing with what I wrote :smugfavre:

I replied to someone saying GKMC first week sales were more impressive than Kanye's debut. I said that is incorrect because in '12 200k first week will have you doing 600k tops but in '04 you could do 400k first week and be double platinum within a year.

First week sales are over-emphasised. Internet Nas-stans still laugh about how Nas did 10k more than Jeezy first week back in '06. Ignoring that The Inspiration sold 500k more than HHID in the long-run.

Nas did son Jeezy something terrible on My President is Black tho :pachaha:
