I already had an associates degree in Computer Information Systems that I completed when I was 21 years old. I told myself I'd take a semester off before getting a bachelors. That one semester turned into 9 years lol.
By the time I was 30 I wasn't in the computer field and I had just started working in Accounting/Finance for DFAS (DoD).
I had already registered for school when the agency I worked for announced a program that would pay for all of your degree (including books). They only select 25 people a year and there are 5000+ employees at the location where I worked. I didn't think I had a shot; I was low-level and didn't work on meaningful projects with any 'decision makers'. I put in for it anyway...and I got selected! I finished my bachelors in Accounting at 33 years old. I have since gotten promoted at another agency.
I didn't have to pay for my associates either. In the state of Indiana, if you are a child of a disabled veteran (which I am) and under the age of 25 (which I was at the time), you can go to a state school and have up to 3 years of tuition paid for.
I have two degrees, and have never paid a dime of tuition.
No student loans FTW!
