Democracy moves slowly because of all the checks and balances. You can choose to ignore them as a president but then your country becomes an authoritarian regime (which is what we're seeing currently). Can't lie, there are parts of me that wants Moderate Joe to feel, before he dies, what his moderacy and going easy with those he said are a 'threat to democracy'......what he has brought onto the rest of the country via weak action / inaction to Jan 6th.
Exactly. This genie isn't going back into the box.Democracy moves slowly because of all the checks and balances. You can choose to ignore them as a president but then your country becomes an authoritarian regime (which is what we're seeing currently).
Trump had 4 or 5 lawsuits against him and he was found guilty in one and would have probably been found guilty in all the others. But Trump used all of legal means allowed in a democracy to stall until the election. Means including Repub judges and the Supreme court.
On Trump, Biden did what he had to do in letting the judicial branch do its work. He probably could have done better, sooner or quicker but he respected the democracy because the judicial branch can never be subservient to the executive power.
The Supreme Court should have been the last bastion of law but they ruled Trump had immunity as a president for J6...
We need to say fukk the USA as a whole and split up into different countries.Exactly. This genie isn't going back into the box.
We also can't have the GOP flaunting the judiciary while the Democrats try to abide by it. There will be no winners there.
It will take the collective will of Americans to reset this or America is stuck in an Authoritarian loop for a long time
Biden should’ve assumed emergency powers and declared martial law and had Trump imprisoned and tried for treason. It was an insurrection. He didn’t have the balls to do what was necessary. The Republicans would’ve fallen in line and even right wing pundits were ready to concede Trump had to go. When he didn’t move he set the narrative it wasn’t a serious matter. He allowed them an out through the courts when in emergency the presidents powers are in Lincoln’s words “clothed in immense power”.Democracy moves slowly because of all the checks and balances. Cowardice, stupidity, or naïveté or all three.
You know better than me about the political climate at the time but I'm not sure Repubs would have fallen in line. They called Biden a tyrant for way less than assuming emergency powers.Biden should’ve assumed emergency powers and declared martial law and had Trump imprisoned and tried for treason. Tucker, Shapiro, Ingraham and all the rest immediately started trying to distance themselves from Trump. You know better than me about the political climate at the time but I'm not sure Repubs would have fallen in line. They called Biden a tyrant for way less than assuming emergency powers.
IMO, after J6, it fell "right" to appease the country as tensions were extremely high but hindsight is 20/20.
If you look at Brazil or South Korea when their presidents tried to steal power in the past couple of years, their legislators and/or courts went to work and got them out because that's how it's supposed to be.
I think your Congress, Senate and Supreme Court are far more guilty than Biden in letting Trump back in.
